INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
The City of Denton has retained CapitalEdge Strategies, LLC to provide federal legislative consulting and
government relations services in Washington, D.C., since 1997. CapitalEdge is a government relations firm
that works exclusively for local governments, helping the City track and advocate on federal legislation,
regulations, and grant opportunities that affect Denton's priorities in areas such as transportation, water
resources, public safety, housing, and energy. CapitalEdge maintains regular contact with Denton's
congressional delegation, prepares briefing materials and testimony, provides a weekly Washington Report
during congressional sessions, and helps City officials pursue federal grants and Community Project
Funding. Over the life of the relationship, this work has helped the City secure federal funding and favorable
outcomes on issues including electric distribution transformer regulations, the tax-exempt status of
municipal bonds, Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant awards, Community
Project Funding for local infrastructure, and direct federal fiscal assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The City competitively procured the current contract through a Request for Proposals, and selected
CapitalEdge based on its long-standing institutional knowledge of the City, its exclusive focus on local
government representation, and its favorable cost. CapitalEdge proposes a fee of $60,000 per year ($5,000
per month), which includes ordinary expenses such as travel, printing, and local transportation in
Washington, D.C. This represents an increase of $500 per month ($6,000 per year) over the current contract
and is the firm's first fee increase in more than a decade.
