6212 - QUESTIONS FOR LANDFILL MINING EQUIPMENT
1. Can I get a copy of the Pre-Bid Sign-In Sheet who attended? It is posted on our website
Two of the major components of buying a shredder no matter what the application is what
is the needed through put called tons per hours and what is the needed / or best through-
put size (in a general ballpark)
Throughput Capacity also called Tons per Hour/TPH;
2. Horsepower is only a small part of what determines the throughput capacity, just by
design there is a big difference between single and dual shaft shredders, so I believe the
City should be aware of what is the best TPH capacity to perform the job, without that
information you have no idea on the performance of each machine and which one works
best for your application.
The horsepower of each machine was determined to meet the growing needs of the City
of Denton. Any information you deem as important please provide in your response.
Through put size;
3. As Nick and I discussed the sorting line would work better if the most the materials were
sized around a 12” throughput, the bid leaves out that need. The size and the TPH are
directly tied together, most shredders will make a variety of sizes in a ballpark range,
the bid does not ask what the shredders will have as a through put size, so you could
get anywhere from 6” to 24” and anything in between.
The City of Denton has a need for various size material based on need, this is why a
nominal size is not provided.
90 day delivery
4. I understand you want to start ASAP and told me I can take exemption but I request a
90-120 day time frame be added.
Delivery is 10% of the selection criteria, please state delivery time frame on 4pricing
sheet.
Size of the Machine;
5. I understood that the City of Denton requested that all vendors bring their largest
shredder but the bid request is for a middle of the road smaller Doppstadt when they
offer a much larger DW3080, I understand I can bid both of my shredders but the
largest Lindner would be at price disadvantage and the smaller shredder will not meet
spec for horse power but will beat the Doppstadt for throughput capacity /TPH.
The City of Denton issued this RFP based on the machinery needed for the various
operations, prospective bidders can respond with any machine you like. If your machine
doesn’t meet the specs please take an exception.
6212 - QUESTIONS FOR LANDFILL MINING EQUIPMENT
QUESTION REGARDING THE TROMMEL SPECS.
6. Company offers a Trommel with a front and rear conveyor and denied that unit to the
guys at the landfill. In the specs it says a side conveyor which could create plugging
issues. Can you add an addendum addressing this?
The specifications on page 9 of 16 should read.
A. Minimum width of side and or front conveyor of 40”
C. Minimum length of side and or front conveyor of 16’
7. Another item is our hydraulically operated conveyor, even if others can be adjusted
manually we can raise and lower hydraulically along with our cross belt magnet that also
can be raised and lower hydraulically unlike some others, it should be noted how others
raise and lower these 2 items for ease of use. It makes a big difference.
Please detail this within your bid.
9. Does the Screens have to be Stainless Steel?
No.
10. Does the Conveyors have to have covers (Item 2)?
Yes, if not complete an exception.
11. Does it have to be 2 speed?
No
12. Drum whole size & thickness they range from 4” size drum up to 6” drum price may be
quite a change?
1. Trommel shall come with drum and or screen with 4” openings.
2. Extra drum and or screen size shall be determine once RFP is awarded.
QUESTION REGARDING THE SORTING STATION
13. Line Item #1 - 1. - Engine: what HP are they looking for?
The engine shall be adequate size to run the conveyor and accessories.
14. Line item # 1- 3- hydraulic power- can electric motor be used if a genset is included?
Yes, if it is a self-contained genset on the sorting station.
6212 - QUESTIONS FOR LANDFILL MINING EQUIPMENT
15. Line Item #1 (Section #7, line #C) the canopy should it be metal or
weatherproof canvas or either? A waterproof canvas would be preferred for ease of repairs, but
either application would be acceptable as long there is access for removal of debris and
repairs. Please identify which material will be supplied in the bid.
16. What is our Solicitation number? 6212
17. What is our Solicitation name? Landfill Mining Equipment
18. On the pricing sheet what is the difference between the unit and extended price? The unit
price is the per piece of equipment. The extended price is the total of the unit price times
the qty of each piece per that specific line item that you are purchasing and in this case it is
just one piece per line item.
19. On the pricing sheet - If a vendor was to win the bid for 2/4 or 3/4 equipment pieces where
would I include bulk order discounts? Or is that something that will be discussed after initial
submission? I would submit your discount with your proposal fill free to type it in the section
for referencing discounts at the bottom of the pricing sheet.
20. Minimum Qualifications: Is the three references from govt entities absolutely necessary? We
have 3 years + providing similar products/services but have only really one similar sized
municipality that we have done business with. It is not an area that we had actively focused
on since the last 12 months? I am still sure we could get references which can confirm that
we are a real and legitimate business however, like I said we are only actively doing
business with one similar sized municipality. I can easily obtain references from some of our
larger customers in TX if needed - however, most are private enterprises. Our manufacturer
EDGE would have plenty references from municipalities both domestically as well as
internationally that can vouch for the equipment. Will that suffice? Put your references down
but if you have some municipalities it would be advantageous to include those and others
equal to our size and we will judge it on that and the responses to our questions.
21. Scope of Work - Equipment Specifications: Same concerns regarding Tier 4 final engines.
We can submit two bids per machine. However, for the mobile picking/sorting station our
CAT C2.2 engine is under 50HP. In the USA there are no obligations to have a Tier 4 engine
on anything under 50HP? Do you still require a tier 4 engine in this example? Delivery may
also be affected by Tier 4 requests - will this be factored into score?
A) If Tier 4 is not offered on the sorting table then it is not required.
B) It is our understand that Tier 4 Final takes effect on anything less than 50 HP (37kW)
was still required to comply with Tier 4 Final emissions by 2013. If you choose not to bid
this engine then an exception will have to be taken. Delivery of the machine will be taken
into consideration regardless of the engine emission level.
22. Item 1: Sorting Station:
If our product(s) exceed minimum specifications to the extent that it gives us a competitive
advantage over competition - where can this be highlighted? I am assuming in the general
exception/clarification section but just need to be sure? Please detail your equipment you
are bidding that exceeds the specifications, and take an exception if needed.
6212 - QUESTIONS FOR LANDFILL MINING EQUIPMENT
23. Part 6 (a): Our standard picking station has a 48" belt. Can we quote both the 48" & 60"
belt? And in our exception for the 48" belt we could submit reasoning why we recommend
the 48" opposed to the 60"? Including research etc. You can bid both but need to submit
an exception. For the 48” sorting station the specs require a 60” sorting station.
24. A lot of the minimum specifications as listed in the document are already options that we
offer on our machines. Should I include the options as the standard price of the machine?
Or, should I list them all as options including a monetary value so the city can distinguish if
a certain requested extra is too expensive. This can allow us to be more streamlined on
price as well transparent on costs for the city. Yes standard price will work
25. Item 2: Trommel
Part 5 (a): We can only offer one speed on our Trommel. This can be added as an
exception? Yes
26. Part 5 (d): Do you require one remote to do all of these functions? Or can I quote a
standard remote as well as the cost differential as an option for a remote will all requested
extras. For us, there will be a pretty substantial differential. The City of Denton requires a
remote to do all the functions requested.
27. Part 6 (f): Has the need for cross band magnet been removed? Yes
28. Part 6 (j): Do both conveyors need to have variable speeds or just discharge? Yes. If not
complete and exception form.
29. Item 3: Slow Speed Shredder
Part 1 (b): Our maximum HP is a CAT C9 (350HP). Our machine performed very well at
demonstration, has lowest fuel consumption rates on the market and if I was to hazard a
guess would be quite a bit better value than a lot of competitors. Can our machine be added
as an exception as long as we include our reasoning why 350HP is plenty for the city? Including
throughput of material etc. Yes please complete and exception for horsepower.
30. Where should we include our reasoning behind why a double shaft shredder is a better fit
for the city than a single shaft? Exception? Please complete an exception form.
31. Part 6 (a): Our standard weight is 45,000lbs. Exception? Please fill out an exception form.
32. Can we include our own recommendations with regards to teeth, extras etc. as per our
experience in similar applications? We could provide monetary values and savings as per
each recommendation. Yes please add to extra space provided on pricing sheet.
