QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS FROM POTENTIAL RESPONDERS ARE IN
BLACK. ANSWERS FROM CITY OF DENTON IN BLUE.
1. May alternative column designs be utilized for this project such as alternative design or
poured in place columns?
The columns in the plans are engineered and stamped and have used our specific geotextile
reports. Alternately designed columns would have to meet these same requirements in order to
be considered. Stay within the confined specifications for the column design.
2. What is the spacing for masonry ties on the poured in place columns?
Masonry ties / Brick ties should be spaced 16 inches on center for both the CMU and Poured in
place columns.
3. What is the minimum acceptable fence standard for this project?
The City of Denton currently uses ornamental iron fencing at a number of locations. For design
continuity throughout our facilities the minimum acceptable fence shall a fence consisting of
posts made out of 3 inch square tube 14 gauge steel with a 3 inch pressed steel cap set 24 inches
in accordance with the height to accept a 6 foot tall fence. Post spacing shall be 8 foot on center.
Fence pickets shall at be 3/4 inch x 14 gauge square tube steel with a ball point finial.
Each fence section shall have 2 horizontal rails made of 1 ½ inch x 14 gauge square tube steel
spaced equidistantly down the length of the fence securing each of the pickets.
All fence components are to receive Gloss Black Powder Coating
(See Exhibit A)
4. Should fence rails follow the contour of the ground or stair step on elevation changes?
Wherever possible along minute grade changes the fence rails should remain parallel and
correspond to the terrain.
5. What type of chain link is material is required for this project?
Galvanized 9 gauge fence fabric with “knuckle / knuckle fabric ends. No fabric ends terminating
in twisted chain link ends will be accepted. No vinyl coated materials are required on this
project.

6. Will the contractor have a materials storage area on each of these locations?
The City of Denton will denote a 6,000 square foot workspace for the contractor to utilize for
materials storage, spoils storage. The PARD reserves the right to utilize any excess topsoil mined
within the confines of this project. Soils of poor quality or deep excavation spoils and any
remaining topsoil spoils will be the responsibility of the contractor to haul away.
7. What is the procedure for a lane closure associated with this project?
Any lane closure will require a correlating traffic plan and must be communicated a minimum of
14 days in advance to the Project Manager in order to be included in the weekly City of Denton
Traffic Control Report so that it can be communicated with the Citizens of Denton.
8. Are chamfered edge strips necessary on the mow strip or, can manual concrete edging be
used?
The mow strip may be manually edged in lieu of using chamfer edging strips in forms. No
ponding of water may result on the top of the concrete. Sections of ponding water along the mow
strip may result in subsequent rework of the section of concrete.
9. Are materials testing services required in this proposal?
Density and concrete cylinder tests will be conducted by a 3rd party lab paid for by the City of
Denton.
10. Is the contractor responsible for surveying of the area to insure the fence is properly
located?
The fence is a replacement of an existing fence in most locations. The contractor will have
access to CAD files, existing control points, and existing bench marks in the area. Many of these
points are noted on the plans. All additional surveying for the installation of the fence is a
responsibility of the contractor.
11. How is the contractor to dispose of existing fence after removal?
Once removed, the fence is property of the contractor to dispose of.
