7103-26 0505 Electrical Demolition-Addendum 3 17190 / American Legion Senior 26 0505 - 1 CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS Center SCHEDULE SECTION 26 0505 ELECTRICAL DEMOLITION PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SECTION INCLUDES A. Electrical Demolition PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT A. Materials and equipment for patching and extending work: As specified in individual sections. B. In general, all material removed may be reused provided that the material is in good condition and would carry contractor’s labor warranty, same as if material was new – e.g., if reused material proves to be defective after construction is complete and accepted but before the contractor’s warranty expires, then furnish labor for replacement, but the Owner will furnish replacement material. C. If material is reused that is unacceptable (because of condition or quality) to the Owner or Architect, it shall be replaced with new material as part of the contract at the sole expense of the contractor. D. Material and equipment removed from the project and not reused shall be turned over to the Owner and delivered where directed. Waste material shall be removed from the site. 2.02 EXISTING FACILITIES A. The location, size and elevation of all existing facilities, points of services, interferences and other similar miscellaneous information is shown on the drawings in accordance with data furnished this office by the Owner and field survey performed by the Engineer’s personnel. B. This information is to the best knowledge of the Engineers accurate and complete, but the Engineers cannot and do not guarantee the accuracy of this data. C. Examine the site and verify these conditions before submitting bids. D. Report all errors or inconsistencies found to the Engineer so that proper rectification of this information can be sent to all bidders before bid data. E. Failure to report errors or inconsistencies shall not be grounds for holding the Owner or Engineer responsible for additional charges or extras regarding costs involved in the installation due to these causes. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Verify field measurements and circuiting arrangements are as shown on 17190 / American Legion Senior 26 0505 - 2 CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS Center SCHEDULE Drawings. B. Verify that abandoned wiring and equipment serve only abandoned facilities. C. Demolition drawings are based on casual field observation and existing record documents. D. Report discrepancies Owner before disturbing existing installation. E. Beginning of demolition means installer accepts existing conditions. 3.02 PREPARATION: A. All revision and addition work shall be carefully scheduled. B. Refer to the architectural drawings for removal and relocation work and rearrangement of areas which affect his work. C. Disconnect electrical systems in walls, floors and ceilings to be removed. D. Coordinate utility service outages with utility company. E. Provide temporary wiring and connections to maintain existing systems in service during construction. F. When work must be performed on energized equipment or circuits, use personnel experienced in such operations. G. Existing Electrical Service: Maintain existing system in service until new system is complete and ready for service. Disable system only to make switchovers and connections. Minimize outage duration. 1. Obtain permission from Owner at least 24 hours before partially or completely disabling system. 2. Make temporary connections to maintain service in areas adjacent to work area. 3.03 DEMOLITION AND EXTENSION OF EXISTING ELECTRICAL WORK A. Remove, relocate, and extend existing installations to accommodate new construction. B. Remove abandoned wiring to source of supply. C. Remove exposed abandoned conduit, including abandoned conduit above accessible ceiling finishes. Cut conduit flush with walls and floors, and patch surfaces. D. Disconnect abandoned outlets and remove devices. Remove abandoned outlets if conduit servicing them is abandoned and removed. Provide blank cover for abandoned outlets which are not removed. E. Disconnect and remove abandoned panelboards and distribution equipment. 17190 / American Legion Senior 26 0505 - 3 CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS Center SCHEDULE F. Disconnect and remove electrical devices and equipment serving utilization equipment that has been removed. G. Disconnect and remove abandoned luminaries. Remove brackets, stems, hangers and other accessories. H. Repair adjacent construction and finishes damaged during demolition and extension work. I. Maintain access to existing electrical installations which remain active. Modify installation or provide access panel as appropriate. J. Extend existing installations using materials and methods compatible with existing electrical installations, or as specified. K. Where fixtures or devices are removed from the end of a circuit run the wiring serving such fixture or device shall be removed back to the panel or to nearest permanent device to be left served by same circuit. L. Where fixtures or devices are removed from the middle of a conduit run, suitable rewiring shall be performed as required to continue service to the remaining devices. M. Where conduits are abandoned or where the removal of devices make it practical for the conduit to be abandoned, it shall be removed back to the points of permanent concealment. N. Conduits serving outlets on equipment or in partitions being removed shall be removed back to the point of concealment or to the nearest permanent outlet box. O. Where outlet boxes are removed from the middle of a run the conduits shall be cut back to below the floor line or above the ceiling lines, as applicable, where they shall be coupled together in an approved manner. P. Wiring shall be removed to the nearest permanent outlets on each side and new wiring installed between these two permanent outlets. Q. Where existing devices are remaining provide all work and materials necessary to do any revisions to accommodate any new wall, surfacing, additions and modifications. 3.04 CLEANING AND REPAIR A. Clean and repair existing materials and equipment which remain or are to be reused. B. Panelboards: Clean exposed surfaces and check tightness of electrical connections. Replace damaged circuit breakers and provide closure plates for vacant positions. Provide typed circuit directory showing revised circuiting arrangement. C. Luminaries: remove existing luminaries for cleaning. Use mild detergent to lean all exterior and interior surfaces; rinse with clean water and wipe dry.
