INFORMATION / BACKGROUND The reconstruction of Hickory Street from Bonnie Brae Street to Carroll Boulevard was funded as part of the 2014 Bond Program. The portion of the project from Bonnie Brae Street to Welch Street is currently under construction and nearing completion. This project spans the remaining portion of West Hickory Street from Welch Street to Carroll Boulevard and includes a reconfiguration as well as reconstruction of the road to allow for installation of pedestrian lighting and improved pedestrian access along the both sides of the road while still maintaining two 11- foot travel lanes, a bike lane on the south side of the street and parallel parking along the north side of the street. The project total cost of $1,919,503.95 for W. Hickory St. Paving, Lighting & Drainage Improvements construction consists of: $1,828.099 total base bid; and a $91,404.95 contingency. A five (5) percent contingency allowance, if any, is for the sole use of the City and will be subject to written authorization by the City’s Project Manager and Program Manager. The engineer’s estimate for comparison (without contingency) for the Base Bid was $2,320,263.00 and for the Alternate Bid (without contingency) was $1,819,833. Invitation for Bids was sent to 373 prospective suppliers of this item. In addition, specifications were placed on the Materials Management website for prospective suppliers to download and advertised in the local newspaper. Five (5) bids meeting specifications were received. The lowest bid was received by 2L Construction, LLC. City Hall 215 E.
