SUBJECT
Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, Texas, a Texas home-rule municipal corporation,
authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract through the U.S. Communities Cooperative Purchasing
Program Contract # 00254 for the purchase of residential refuse and recycling carts and replacement parts;
providing for the expenditure of funds therefor; and providing an effective date (File 6926 – awarded to
Rehrig Pacific Company, in the three (3) year not-to-exceed amount of $1,010,208).
INFORMATION /BACKGROUND
Rehrig Pacific Company has been the provider of the City’s residential refuse and recycling carts since
2008, standardizing the wheels, axles, and other parts for the carts. The previous three year term contract
for refuse and recycling cart purchases expires in January 2019.
The Solid Waste and Recycling Department purchases refuse and recycling carts due to wear and tear, loss,
and residential growth occurring within the City of Denton. Additional carts are needed to serve customers
within newly annexed areas, and to upsize or downsize existing carts in service.
Pricing obtained through the U.S. Communities Cooperative Purchasing Network has been competitively
bid and meets the statutory requirements of Texas Local Government Code 271.102.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)
On January 21, 2003, Council approved the interlocal agreement with the U.S. Communities Cooperative
Purchasing Network (Ordinance 2003-017).
RECOMMENDATION
Award a contract with Rehrig Pacific Company, for the supply of residential refuse and recycling carts, in
a three (3) year not-to-exceed amount of $1,010,208.

FISCAL INFORMATION
These services will be funded from the Residential operating budget, account 660100.8535. The budgeted
amount for these services is $1,010,208.
