SUBJECT
Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, a Texas home-rule municipal corporation,
authorizing the approval of a first amendment to a contract between the City of Denton and HACH
Company, amending the contract approved by City Council on February 4, 2020, in the not-to-exceed
amount of $300,000.00, said first amendment to provide for the additional purchase of various items for the
Municipal Laboratory, Water Production, Water Reclamation, and Wastewater Collection Departments;
providing for the expenditure of funds therefor; and providing an effective date (File 6898 – providing for
an additional first amendment expenditure amount not-to-exceed $175,000.00, with the total contract
amount not-to-exceed $475,000.00). The Public Utilities Board recommends approval (4 - 0).
INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
The Water and Wastewater Departments use various Hach Company products in their daily operations for
testing, monitoring, and real-time control of plant operations, as well as flow measurement in the
wastewater collection system.
The current contract with Hach Company has 7% remaining of the original not-to-exceed amount of
$300,000. Based on historical spend, and increased prices the proposed amendment will provide the
continuation of purchasing required items from Hach Company through the remaining term of the contract.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)
On February 4, 2020, City Council approved a contract with HACH Company, in the not-to-exceed amount
of $300,000 (Ordinance 20-232).
On March 14, 2022, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) recommended this item to the City Council for
consideration.
RECOMMENDATION
Award Amendment No. 1 with Hach Company, for the additional purchases of various items for the
Municipal Laboratory, Water Production, Water Reclamation, and Wastewater Collection Departments, in
a not-to-exceed amount of $175,000, for a total amended contract amount of $475,000.

FISCAL INFORMATION
These items will be funded through the using department’s budget on an as-needed basis. The City will
only pay for services rendered and is not obligated to pay the full contract amount unless needed.
