Request for City Manager approval for awarding a purchase of VMWare software for DME’s
Disaster Recovery site from Presidio, Inc. in the amount of $95,259.68 through the State of Texas
Department of Information Resources (DIR) through the Go DIRect Program, Contract Number
DIR -SDD -2035 (File 6021).
FILE INFORMATION
The City of Denton’s computer infrastructure dedicated to Denton Municipal Electric (DME)
requires a high level of availability so that DME can continue to provide services in case of failures
or disasters at a single location or site. The DME infrastructure houses complex systems such as
the metering data warehouse (MDM) for billing th e advanced meter system which talks to our
smart meters and the systems used by the Energy Management Organization to make market
decisions.
It is essential for the City of Denton to provide a disaster recovery or disaster avoidance system to
allow the D ME applications and service s to continue to operate in case of a disaster or
environmental failure.
VMWare provides software that allows efficient use of server hardware and also provides the basis
for the City’s Disaster Recovery components. VMWare i s used throughout the environment and
fits within the current support model.
RECOMMENDATION
T echnology Services recommends a ward ing to Presidio , Inc. in the amount $95,259.68 for the
VMWare software for DME ’s D isaster R ecovery Site .
BASIS FOR SELECTION
Presidio , Inc. is providing the Cisco equipment and professional services for DME’s Disaster
Recovery site project (File#5492). T o complete this project , VMWare software is needed to
support the Disaster Recovery model.
