ORDINANCE NO
AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF
THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF DENTON ON
JANUARY 18, 1997 TO FILL A VACANCY ON PLACE 2 OF THE CITY COUNCIL,
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I The City Council finds and declares that the
January 18, 1997, special municipal election was duly ordered for
the purpose of electing a Councilperson to fill the vacancy in
Place 2, that proper notice of said election was duly given and
election officials appointed, that the election was duly held and
the returns of the election officials have been delivered to the
Council, all in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and
the Charter and ordinances of the City of Denton
SECTION II The official returns of the election officials
having been opened, examined and canvassed, and the Council hereby
finds and declares that 2,447 ballots were cast at the election for
City Council Place 2 in District 2, and that the votes cast for
each candidate for Place 2 on the Council in District 2 were as
follows

Neil Durrance 703 votes

TOTAL REGULAR BALLOTS CAST
FOR PLACE 2

SECTION III The Council finds and declares that the candidate
listed below received a majority of the votes cast for Place 2 on
the Council and that such candidate listed below is hereby declared
to be elected to the City Council of the City of Denton
FOR PLACE 2 Neil Durrance
and the candidate shall assume the duties of his office on the date
that he takes the official oath of office
