HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-016J:\WPDOCS\ORD\SALESTAX.O ORDINANCE NO. i?V- Q/A�2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF A SALES AND USE TAX ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY ON JANUARY 15, 1994. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas (the "City") duly authorized an election to be held within the City on January 15, 1994 (the "Election") for the purpose of submitting to the resident qualified voters of the City the proposition set forth hereinafter in this preamble (the "Proposition"); and WHEREAS, the City Council has investigated all matters pertaining to the Election, including the ordering, giving notice, appointing officers, and holding and making returns of the results thereof; and said returns have been duly delivered to the City Council for official canvassing of the returns thereof; and WHEREAS, upon consideration of the returns of the Election, it appears that the Election was held in accordance with the authorized proceedings and was in all respects legally held after proper notice had been given, and that the said returns were duly and legally made, showing the following results: PROPOSITION THE ADOPTION OF AN ADDITIONAL ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE CITY TO BE USED TO REDUCE THE PROPERTY TAX RATE NOW, THEREFORE, VOTES FOR: 2,135 VOTES AGAINST: 570 THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION I. All of the recitals contained in the preambles of this Ordinance are found to be true and are adopted as findings of fact by this governing body and as part of its official records. SECTION II. It is further found and determined that the results of the Election as canvassed and tabulated in the preambles hereof reflect the expressed desires of the resident qualified voters of the City. SECTION III. As a result of this canvass, the City Council hereby finds and determines that a total of 2,718 persons voted in the Election.
