Items 112, 113, 114 for a total of $28,111 44 and Casco - Items 1-4, 8-10, 12, 13, 16-20, 22, 25-33, 35, 37-39, 419 42, 45-64, 72-75, 79, 80 for a total of $55,555 00 All %Mims will not be awarded This bid was sent to several suppliers of fire equipment and fire truck builders We received one bid on the fire truck and feel that the bid was competitive and a good bid The optional equipment received more bids BACKGROUND Bid Tabulation Sheets Memorandum from John Cook PROGRAMS, DEPARTMENTS OR GROUPS AFFECTED The Fire Department and the ability to utilize the needed equipment effectively FISCAL I1IPACT There is no additional impact on the General Fund at present Respe fully submitted v LI d V Harrell City Manager Prepared by 41 1 Approved a e o J l ars all, C P M Ti t e Purchasing Agent MEMO 87-062 TO Mr. John Marshall, Purchasing Agent FROM J L Cook, Jr , Fire Chief A., DATE 1 December, 1987 RE Award of Bid No 9799 I would like to submit the following recommendations concerning the award of the items contained in Bid No. 9799 1. 1500 GPM Pumping Engine I would recommend that we ac- cept the bid from General Safety for three (3) identical units The first of which to be delivered within 180 days of the receipt of the order, and the remaining two to be delivered within 360 days of the receipt of the order While they were the only bidder, they are certainly qualified to build the specified units All the major suppliers of apparatus are capable of building similar units and were given equal opportunity to bid They ob- viously declined Our bid is unique in that it was a commercial chassis A similar "custom" fire apparatus chassis would add between $14,000 00 to $20,000 00 to the price of each unit We do not have enough money to purchase such a unit Therefore, we would have to buy less of a truck by taking off many of the options con- tained in the specifications This would be unfortunate and re§ult in a much less desirable vehicle If we are forced to rebid, there will be a costly time delay We need these vehicles as soon as possible to shore -up our aging fleet 2 Radios -
