HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-0159581A AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PARKING OF VEHICLES WITHOUT A VALID UNIVERSITY PARKING PERMIT ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF PUBLIC STREETS RUNNING THROUGH OR IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO PROPERTY OWNED, OCCUPIED OR CONTROLLED BY TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY, PROVIDING FOR DESIGNATION OF RESTRICTED PARKING ZONES ON SAID STREETS, REPEALING ARTICLE VII 1/2 OF CHAPTER 25 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, PROVIDING A PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, HEREBY ORDAINS SECTION I When curbs are painted black in color and signs are erected giving notice thereof, no person shall park a vehicle unless such vehicle has a valid parking permit issued by Texas Woman's University visibly displayed upon the rear portion of the vehicle on the following Denton public streets running through or immediately adjacent to property owned or occupied and controlled by the University, to -wit (1) the west side of Bell Avenue from University Drive to Texas Street, (2) the south side of College Street from Vine Street to Bell Avenue, (3) the north and east sides of Oakland Avenue from North Locust Street to Texas Street, (4) the west side of Oakland Avenue from Sawyer Street to 250 feet north of the northwest corner of Third Street, and (5) the north side of Texas Street from Bell Avenue to Oakland Avenue SECTION II The provisions of Section I shall apply at all times to the street and portions of street designated therein except when it is necessary to stop a vehicle to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with a police officer, campus peace officer or official traffic control device SECTION III Any person adjudged guilty of parking a vehicle in violation of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and punished by a fine not to exceed Two Hundred ($200 00) Dollars SECTION IV That Article VII 1/2 of Chapter 25 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Denton, Texas, is hereby repealed SECTION V That if any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word in this ordinance, or application thereof to any person or circumstances is held invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance, and the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas, hereby declares it would have enacted such remaining portions despite any such invalidity All ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed SECTION VI That this ordinance shall become effective fourteen (14) days from the date of its passage, and the City Secretary is hereby directed to cause the caption and penalty clause of this ordinance to be published twice in the Denton Record -Chronicle, the official newspaper of the City of Denton, Texas within ten (10) days of the date of its passage PASSED AND APPROVED this the 26� day of 19 u ecl nnnu v oinrvnni, r.
