on that date that this location qualifies for a school speed zone based on
pedestrian activity. Dallas office approves revisions to strip map.
2) Strip map revision submitted to TxDOT, Austin 9/7/05 for approval.
Revised map shows regular speed limit in this area to be 50mph based on 85th
percentile speeds. The proposed school speed limit is 35mph (when flashing).
3) Revised strip map to be provided to the City of Denton by 9/30/05 (est.).
4) Interim school signs (see below) to be converted to regulatory signs upon receipt
of a speed ordinance from the City of Denton.
5) TxDOT, Dallas to contact City of Denton for electric power at the sign locations
(approx 9/8 or 9/9/05)_
6) In the interim, school zone signs will be posted with advisory speed plaques
(35mph when flashing, if power is available at site).
Estimated completion - 9/16/05
Sidewalks
TxDOT will incorporate sidewalks into plans for widening of FM 2181 in accordance
with policy. The policy will detennine the extent ofTxDOT participation in cost.
Basic concept applicable to TxDOT provided sidewalks (as of 9/03)
I) Existing sidewalks removed as part of construction are replaced at TxDOT expense.
2) New sidewalks may be included at TxDOT expense on the project if:
· Facility is part of a locally adopted sidewalk planning document;
· There is evidence of pedestrian traffic (either pedestrians are observed, there is a
beaten down path, or significant potential exists for pedestrians to walk in the
roadway); or
· Facility is located on a route to a school or a transit route.
In addition, where pedestrian generators/attractors exist, new sidewalk construction may
also be considered.
3) Additional new sidewalks not meeting the above criteria may be installed under the
TxDOT construction contract if paid for by others.
