and Mr. Jim Wright from the office of Ilouaing and Urban
Uovelopraent in Uallne, I obtained the following informations
1, This region of IIUU has 4,5 million dollars to grant to
desorving applicants. The requests received from cities in
this area already total p43,O00,000.
2. Thiti region includes Houston, Uallan, 111srt Worth, and ' i
West Texas.
!7
3. There is no grout money available for community buildings
or large neighborhood centers except for very hi8h priotlity
I poverty areas,' which we are not, r~
4, Dsnt uu is fist on the list of cities whiell have placed
letters of Intent to apply for HUD funds, The and of thi
fisca'L year for the IIUU agitney is July 1, at which time
a now approprNtiun will b+s n,+sde. i
5. Our application till follow tits wamo format as the old

9. All of these applications MuAt favor lov economic or
depressed areas. I am 0vaid that wo will not maet all of
this criteria in some of our progranj.
10. We should have a letter of asaurance or a.lotter explaining
why such assurance was not issued from the PUO office.
llupefully, Larry arinkley has this latter.
11, Our local altnre can be in the form of cash, force account
work, or private donations of land or materials.
12. Wo must be prepared to demonstrate this ability to finance
the entire project coat prior to receiving nid from RD
13.: The applications will be forthcoming so that we tuay apply
as quickly as we gat them in our hnnds. Although the 4,5
million dollera is aVailAble until July 1~ we would be hard-
pressed to complete an application for a priority portion of
our bond program this spring, Thin should be attempted, howevier,,
14. Our letter of intent to lapply refers to a 3°1/2 year program,
requiring total ioderal as,.: , r.s,ico of $350000.
( Upon contacting the REW Dep itrinent concerning the possibility, of
matching funds for the dev llftfrrAnt of community cantora on or
