A discussion was held concerning the adoption of the 1978
edition of the National Electrical Code, It was moved by Williams
and seconded by Chumbley THAI THE 1978 EDITION OF THE NATIONAL
r' ELECTRICAL CODE BE RECOMMENDED TO THE CITY COUNCII< FOR ADOPTION
AI-ONG WITH THE ATTACHED AMENDMENTS AND DELETIONS TO THE NATIONAL
CODE AND CHAPTER 9 OF TIE CITY CODE OF ORDINANCES, Motion carried
unanimously,

2. Section 210-8(a)(1) and (2), N,E.C, 1978
As written;
210-8 Ground--Fault Circuit Protection,
(a) Dwelling Units,
(1) All 120-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20- ampere recep-
tacles installed in bathrooms and garages of dwelling
units shall have ground-fault circuit interrupter pro-
tection for personnel,

(2) All 120-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere recep-
tacles installed outdoors where there is direct grade
level access to the dwelling unit and to the recep-
tacles shall have ground-fault circuit interrupter
protection for personnel.

with one or more of the following: A toilet, a tub,
or a shower.

(b) Construction Sites,
All 120-volt single-phase 15- and 20-ampere receptacle
outlets which are not a part of the permanent wiring of
the building or structure, shall have ground-fault.ci:r-
cuit-interrupters for personnel protection.
Exception: Receptacles on a portable generator rated not
more than 5 K.W. where the circuit conductors of the gen-
erator are insulated from earth and the generator frame
is insulated from earth and.all grounded surfaces,

4. Section 336-3, first (lst) paragraph, N.E.C. 1978

336-3 Uses Permitted or Not permitted.
Type NM and Type NMC cables shall be permitted to be used
in one- and two-family dwellings, or multi-family dwellings
and other structures not exceeding three floors above
f grade, For the purpose of this article, the first floor of
a building shall be that floor designed for human habita-
tion which is level with or above finished grade of the
exterior wall line of 50 percent or more of its perimeter.
As recommended to City Council:

As written:

well casing effectively bonded to the ppe) and elec-
trically continuous (or made electrically continuous
by bonding around insulating joints or sections or
insulating ipe) to the, points of connection of the
grounding e ectrode conductor and the bonding con-
ductors. Continuity of the grounding path or the
bonding connection to interior piping shall not rely
on wager meters. A metal underground water pipe shall

be supplemented by an additional electrode of a type
specified in Section 250-81 or in Section 250-83,

trically continuous (or made electrically continuous
by bonding around insulating joints or sections or

As written:
All work shall be in metal conduit except single and multi-
family residences. Other specific exceptions may be pe•-
mitted with a written permit from the city electrical in-
specter authorizing such specifications,

(a) Prior to the issuance of electrical permits, the

a corporate surety bond in the amount of one-thou-
sand ($1,000.00) dallars, payable to the City Manager
and his successors in office, conditioned that the
applicant and employees working under him shall faith-
fully comply with all ordinances of the City regulating
the installing, changing, repairing or altering of
~i electric wiring or apparatus, and that all contracts
1 for such work will be faithfully performed.
(b) The proceeds of the bond shall be available to the
City or any person having a course of action arising
out of the installation, changing, repairing or
altering of electrical wiring or apparatus by the prin-
cipal or any euployee under his supervision,

Texas, was held Tuesday, July 6, 1976 at 4 P.M, in the Civil Defense
Room of the Municipal Building.

A motion was made by Williams to ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF MAY 25, 1976,
Chumbley seconded and the motion was carried unanimously,

A motion was made by Chumbley to ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF JUNE 1, 1976,
Higdon seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously,
Chumbley made a motion to ACCEPT RECIPROCITY
COUNTY with the exception that the City ofDenton haveWtheHrightTtoRANT
administer an exam, Motion seconded by Williams and carried unanimously,

j 31 Chairman Higdon expressed his desire to resign as chair-
man and requested that the board elect a now chairman at
f its next meeting.
4. The Board discussed permit fees and stated their desire
to be advised of all electrical examinations given each
month.
