As we have done in the past, staff will be
providing an
"information packet' to all candidates in the city election. I
have attached for your information a list of items which have
been collected in the past for these packets as well as a
memorandum from our office which was sent to department
directors requesting this information. s
Traditionally, these packets are distributed to the candidates
on the day when they draw for place on the ballot. I plan to
hold the draw on Monday, February 24, 1986. I will have a
definite number of copies which will be required after the
filing deadline on February 19.

The Charter specifies that a member of the Council 'shall not
be in arrears in the payment of any taxes or other liabilities
due to the city.' Each year after filing deadline, I ask the
Tax Office to research the tax status of the candidates,
Attached for your information please find a memorandum which I
received Thursday, February 20.
I have spoken to Mr, Hopkins and Mr. Stone and attempted to {
contact Mr. Nash but was informed by his office that he would
be out of town until February 26. I will call Mrs. Nash on
Monday, February 24 and make her aware of the situation,

This is to confirm that Station #4 at 2130 Sherman Drive will s
be the official polling place for District 2 for the April 5,
1986 Council election. The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m.
until 7:00 p.m. Election workers will need some set up time
prior to the opening of the polls and will put away the tables
and chairs after the polls close at 7:00 p.m. I would
appreciate it if you would see that the Firefighters are aware
of this date.

To follow-up on our telephone conversation, the City will be ~
using the American Legion Hall at 629 Lackey Street as the J
official polling place for District 1 for the April 51 1986 91
Council election, The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until
7:00 p.m. Election workers will need some set up time prior to
the opening of the polls and will put away the tables and
chairs after the polls close at 7:00 p.m. I would appreciate
it if you would see that no food or beverages are sold at the
post on this day. As in the past, the City will issue a check
for $25,00 to cover any utility expenses. +

This is to confirm that North Lakes Recreation Center will be
the official polling place for District 3 and Denia Recreation
Center will be the official polling place for District 4 for
the April 5, 1986 Council election. The polls will be open
from 7:OU a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Election workers will need some
set up time prior to the opening of the polls and will I
put tables and chairs after the polls close at 7:00 p.mlaway
would appreciate it if you would see that the personnel at the
centers are aware of this date and these times.

Preclearance from the U. S. Department of Justice of any
'changes in voting", pursuant to Section 5 of the Voting Rights

to be a "change in voting" for purposes of the Act, we will,
therefore, need to submit information to the Justice Department
b'e concerning all annexations which have occurred since our prior
" submission in February of 1985.
I am therefore requesting that your department prepare and
submit the following:
1. Copies of all annexation ordinances which have been
3 approved since the passage of ordinance number 85-31,
approved on February 2, 1985.
2, A summary sheet of the approved annexations, showing the
ordinarce number, date approved, number of acres,

Absentee voting shall be conducted for the election to be
held on April 5, 1985 and, in the event of a rurtoff for the
election, April 260 1986, by the Office of the City Secretary in
the municipal building on East McKinney Street in the City of
Denton, Texas, and the polls for absentee voting shall be open
for voting in person between the hour of 6:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
Monday through Friday during the tines allowed for absentee
voting.
SECTION V.
The City Secretary is hereby authorized to prepare the
official ballot for said election and perform each an(i every act 1
required by the Charter and laws of the State of Texas for
holding elections.

SECTION VI.
The rate of pay for election judges and clerks shall be the
maximum amount provided for by State law.
