HomeMy WebLinkAboutR2013-026s:\Iegal \our documents\resolutions\13 \prop 6 resolution (aug 20 2013).doe RESOLUTION NO. 82013 -026 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, SUPPORTING PROPOSITION 6, RELATING TO WATER INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Senate Joint Resolution 1, 83rd Legislative Session, establishes a special revolving fund in the state treasury called the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas and the State Water Implementation Revenue Fund for Texas to assist in the financing of priority projects in the state water plan; and WHEREAS, House Bill 4, 83rd Legislative Session, created the Texas Water Development Board to assist in the funding of and issuance of revenue bonds for certain water - related projects; and WHEREAS, if approved by voters, the State Water Implementation Fund of Texas would be supplemented by $2 billion from the Economic SWbilization Fund, as provided by House Bill 1025, 83rd Legislative Session; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton City Councii recognizes that drought conditions cost Texas businesses and workers billions of dollars in lost income every year; and WHEREAS, .this historic package of legislation will help protect the public and our economy from the devastating impacts of drought; and WHEREAS, the state of Texas is divided into 16 regional water planning groups which will ensure that priorities of funding water projects, per the legislative package, are led at the local level; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton is committed to ensuring residents in Denton and the . North Texas region have adequate, clean, and affordable water supplies today and hereafter; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The City Council hereby adopts and incorporates the above referenced findings in this Resolution. SECTION 2. The City Council therefore supports Proposition 6, relating to water infrastructure funding, and the City Manager, or his designee, is hereby authorized to forward this Resolution to appropriate Senate and House members of the Texas Legislature. The City Council further authorizes the Mayor to provide information concerning the topic contained in this Resolution to citizens of this community and throughout the State. sAlegahour documentslresolutions1131prop 6 resolution (aug 20 2013).doc SECTION 3.
