HomeMy WebLinkAboutR2014-0081 RITIF611 Lei I was] 0 0111 m K-616MM 1 ammm"1641 Rj 01 Ka W."I gj lon"A kka' I a 21KNIMAMIYA10 I WHEREAS, the City of Denton, Texas desires to include sustainable design and building practices in all new City of Denton construction located within the City; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes that energy efficiency and water efficiency are known to reduce operating costs in both new construction, and in retrofit and remodels; and WHEREAS, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and other similar rating programs identify a range of actions that define energy efficient buildings and establish certification processes for both new and existing buildings; and WHEREAS, a number and a variety of North American municipalities have implemented green building and energy efficient building policies; and WHEREAS, it is important for the City to have a policy and process to follow when determining minimum criteria for new construction; and WHEREAS, the City is committed to building the most efficient and healthy buildings for our citizens and workforce; NOW THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Denton, Texas hereby requires all new City-owned buildings, in excess of five-thousand (5,000) square feet, to perform a feasibility study in order to determine the use of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), or another similar rating program, in design and construction, and requires that all exempt buildings, or those buildings of less than five-thousand (5,000) square feet to meet minimum energy and water efficiency requirements.
