CITY OF DENTON CITY COUNCIL
May 20, 2014
The City of Denton City Council will convene in the Work Session Room on Tuesday, May 20,
2014 at 5:30 p.m. to attend a reception honoring City Council.
After determining that a quorum is present, the City of Denton City Council will convene in a
Regular Meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall,
215 E. McKinney Street, Denton, Texas at which the following items will be considered:
1. Pledge of Allegiance
A. U.S. Flag
B. Texas Flag
"Honor the Texas Flag — I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible."
2. Consider adoption of an ordinance canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the
Regular Municipal Election to elect two City Council Members to Places 5 and 6 and a
Mayor to Place 7 held in the city of Denton on May 10, 2014; and providing an effective
date.
3. Consider adoption of an ordinance canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the
Special Municipal Election to elect one City Council Member to District 2 of the City
Council of the City of Denton, Texas held in the city of Denton on May 10, 2014; and
providing an effective date.
4. Oath of Office administered to newly elected Council Members.
5. Election of Mayor Pro Tem.
6. Resolution of Appreciation for Mark Burroughs, Pete Kamp and James King.

The City Council ordered an election on February 18, 2014 for the purpose of electing Council
Members to Places 5 and 6 and electing a Mayor to Place 7 of the City Council. This ordinance
formally canvasses the results of the election of May 10, 2014.

AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF
THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO ELECT TWO CITY COUNCIL MCMB�RS
TO PLACES 5 AND 6 AND A MAYOR TO PLACE 7 HEI,D IN TH� CITY OF DENTON ON
MAY 10, 2014; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The City Council finds and declares that the May 10, 2014 regular
municipal election was duly ordeg•ed for the purpose of electing two council members to Places 5
and 6, and a Mayor to Place 7; that proper notice of said election was duly given and election
officials appointed; that the electian was duly held and the a°eharns of the election officials have
been delivered to the Council, all in accoi-dance with the laws of the State of Texas and the
Chartei• and ardinances of the City of Denton.
SLC`I'ION 2. The official returns ofthe electian afficials having been opened, eXa111111eC1,

and canvassed, and the Council hei•eby finds and declares that 5,167 ballots were cast at the
election, and that the votes cast for each place an the Council were as follows:

On January 28, 2014, Council Member Gregory submitted his resignation as a member of the
Council District 2 to became effective at the time of the canvassing of the results of the special
municipal election to be held May 10, 2014. This ordinance formally canvasses the results af the
special election of May 10, 2014.
