After determining that a quorum is present, the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas will convene
in a Special Called Closed Meeting on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Work
Session Room at City Hall, 215 E. McKinney Street, Denton, Texas at which the following item will be
considered:
1. Closed Meeting:
A. ID 16-1499 Deliberations regarding Personnel Matters - Under Government Code, Section
551.074; and Consultation with Attorneys - Under Texas Government Code,
Section 551.071.
Discuss and deliberate regarding the evaluation of candidates and the
appointment/employment of a City Manager and consultation, deliberation and
receipt of information from the City attorneys involving legal matters relating to
employment law and contracts with candidates, where a public discussion of these
legal matters would clearly conflict with the duty of the City's attorneys to the City
of Denton under Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct of the State Bar
of Texas.
Following the completion of the Closed Meeting, the City Council will convene in a Special Called
Meeting to consider the following item:
1. Items for Individual Consideration
A. ID 16-1507 Consider adoption of an ordinance approving an employment agreement for the City
Manager and authorizing the Mayor to execute said Agreement setting the
compensation and terms of that employment; authorizing expenditures and actions;
and providing an effective date.

SUBJECT
Consider adoption of an ordinance approving an employment agreement for the City Manager and authorizing
the Mayor to execute said Agreement setting the compensation and terms of that employment; authorizing
expenditures and actions; and providing an effective date.
BACKGROUND:
The City Council has conducted a search for a City Manager, interviewed candidates, and desires to employ the
selected candidate.

ORDINANCE, NO.
AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AN EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT FOR THE CITY
MANAGER AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE SAID AGREEMENT
SETTING THE COMPENSATION AND TERMS OF THAT EMPLOYMENT;
AUTHORIZING EXPENDITURES AND ACTIONS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to employ
the City of Denton; and
as City Manager for
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this Ordinance is in the public interest; NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble of this Ordinance are
incorporated into the body of this Ordinance.
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby approves an Employment Agreement for the City
Manager and authorizes the Mayor to execute the Agreement on behalf of the City.
SECTION 3. The City expenditures provided for in the Agreement are hereby authorized.
SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval.
