♦ RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCILOF OF #
DATE.APPOINTING A PRIMARY MEMBER AND ALTERNATE MEMBER AS OFFICIAL
VOTING REPRESENTATIVES TO THE NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS COUNCIL OF
GOVERNMENTS' REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION COUNCIL; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE
WHEREAS, the North Central Texas Council of Governments' Regional Transportation
Council (hereinafter "RTC") is the independent transportation policy body of the federally -
mandated Dallas -Fort Worth Metropolitan Planning Organization and is comprised of 44
members, 37 local elected or appointed officials representing cities and counties, and
representatives # each of area's •# I # providers; • #
WHEREAS, the RTC is responsible for overseeing the metropolitan planning process;
including but # # to, providing guidance regarding the development of ##a
transportation plans and programs, programming federal and State funds for the implementation
of transportation improvements, selecting specific federally funded projects and programs,
assuring the coordination of services among transportation providers, and ensuring compliance
with federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to metropolitan transportation and air
quality planning;
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Bylaws and Operating Procedures ("Bylaws") of the
RTC, the local elected official representing the Cities of Denton, Sanger, Corinth, and Lake
Dallas on the RTC shall be selected using a weighted vote of the maximum population or
employment of the cities represented; and
WHEREAS, the City of Denton, pursuant to the Bylaws, possesses the authority t*
?,ppoint the representative on behalf of the above-described group of cities to the RTC; and
WHEREAS, on June 6, 2017 the Denton City Council appointed Council Member John
Ryan as the RTC Alternate and now desire to appoint Council Member John Ryan, as the
primary memberto and
WHEREAS, the City Council has appointed locally elected official, Council Member
Keely Briggs, as the alternate member to the RTC; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it be in the public interest to appoint its locally
elected official, Council Member John Ryan, as the primary member to the RTC and locally
elected official, Council Member Keely Briggs, as the alternate member to the RTC; NOW,
THEREFORE,
SECTION 1. The findings and recitations contained in the preamble of this Resolution
are incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2. Locally elected official, Council Member John Ryan, is hereby appointed
as the primary member of the City of Denton to the RTC.
SECTION 3. Its locally elected official, Council Member Keely Briggs, is hereby
appointed as the alternate member of the City of Denton, Texas to the RTC.
SECTION 4. The City Manager, or his designee, is hereby authorized to send a certified
copy of this Resolution to appropriate officials of the RTC.
SECTION 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval.
