HomeMy WebLinkAbout18-1189RESOLUTION NO. 18-1189 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON REQUESTING THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ADVANCE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NORTH BOUND SERVICE ROAD AS THE FIRST PHASE OF FACILITATING THE WEST LOOP 288 PROJECT FROM 1NTERSTATE 35W TO 1NTERSTATE 35N; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation ("TXDOT") is completing the preliminary design of the Loop 288 West project extending from Interstate 35W in south Denton to Interstate 35 North in north Denton (the "Project"); and WHEREAS, TXDOT is considering a phased construction of the estimated $258 million Project due to funding constraints; and WHEREAS, TXDOT will be advancing the construction of one of the two two-lane frontage roads as the first phase of the project; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton is supportive of the mobility and safety enhancements the Project will provide for North Texans; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton is supportive of TXDOT's phased construction plan; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton finds the construction of the north bound frontage road in Phase I of the Project to be most advantageous to the overall transportation system; and WHEREAS, at the August 21, 2018, City of Denton Council Meeting, the Denton City Council requested TXDOT to include the north bound frontage road in Phase I of the Project; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The City of Denton requests TXDOT to construct the north bound frontage lanes as part of the first phase of the Loop 288 Project. SECTION 2. The City of Denton encourages TXDOT to complete the design process as expeditiously as possible to initiate the construction of the project to enhance the safety and mobility of the travelling public in Denton. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
