',.. � . . �' . . � � �. , ....... � ! ,,. � '. � � �. �.. � � , � WHE AS, on October 2, 2007, the Denton City Council approved a resolution creating the "Denton Committee of People with Disabilities" to promote aid to persons with disabilities; and WHEREAS, the "Denton Committee of People with Disabilities" ceased meeting on ar about late 2014; and ' � • ' + ! � . • . . „�� . • � �-• � � -+. � • •. � w r . � t• � � ' ' ;r . � . .� • � -. * . � � .� . � WHEREAS, at the September 25, 201$ Council work session, City Council directed staff ta create an Advisary Cammittee an Persons with Disabilities as a Council-appainted cammittee by resolution to be consistent with other City boards and cammissions, and pravide additional structure to ensure the committee would continue meeting at regular intervals; and WHEREAS, the cammittee would be composed of eleven (11} citizens ta advise the City in those areas of committee interest including, but not limited ta, disability cancerns such as accessibility, and accommodations for City projects and activities; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the public interest to establish the Advisory Committee on Persons with Disabilities for the purpose of promoting accessibility to persons with disabilities in the City of Dentan; NO�J, THEREFORE, *�.: , ...... � . .. .. ,.' . , ���.... � R . . .� � �'�,. � . ........ #, . ., � � , ' � ' � " � � " � r ., � � , � . � • .',�� ., � � � � • ��' •� • �" # # �, . •! ` SECTION 2. The City's prior resolution establishing the "Denton Committee of People with Disabilities" with reference number 2007-030 is hereby repealed i ediately and the "Denton Committee of People with Disabilities" is hereby dissolved. SECTION 3. The City Council hereby establishes an advisory cammittee to be called the "Committee on Persons with Disabilities" ("Committee"). The Committee shall be composed of eleven (11) citizens. The eleven (11) citizens of the community shall be appainted by the City Cauncil. In order to ensure fair representation af all of the citizens of the City of Dentan, each Council member shall appoint one (1) citizen wha resides in their respective district and four (4) cammittee members will be appointed at-large. In the case of the Mayoral, Place 5 and Place 6 districts, citizens may reside in any district of the City. The Committee shall perform its functions in accordance with the intent of this resolution. The Committee members shall serve at the pleasure of the City Council until successors are duly appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Denton City Council. SECTION 4. Members will serve two (2) year terms, with the exception that members of the inaugural Committee shall draw straws to determine which five (5) members shall receive an initial term of one (1) year in order to stagger terms. SECTION 5. It shall be the duty of the Committee on People with Disabilities to advise the City in those areas of Committee interest including, but not limited to, disability concerns such as accessibility and accommodations for City projects and activities. All recommendations shall be made by a majority vote of the entire Committee. Some of the specific projects may include the following: a. Construction of new sidewalks, ramps, and crosswalk features; b. Replacing and repairing existing sidewalks, ramps, and crosswalk features; c. The creation of an ADA Transition Plan; d. The planning and development of an adaptive/handicap accessible park; e. Provide guidance on incorporating new or enhanced signage at the City facilities; f. Advise on improvements for new and existing City facilities; g. Provide input on parking lot rehabilitation projects; h. Provide input for improving City operations; i. Provide input for improving the operations of other entities; and j. Provide input on Parks and Recreation adaptive activities. SECTION 6. Any matters not addressed by this resolution shall be governed by the "City of Denton Handbook for Boards, Commissions and Council Committees." SECTION 7. The City Manager, or his designee, will provide guidance and assistance to the Committee, and be responsible for insuring that records are maintained in accordance with the requirements of the City Secretary's Office. The City Attorney shall provide legal counsel to the Committee and subcommittees. SECTION 8. This Comrnittee shall be a standing committee of the City of Denton until such time as i� i� � 't 's dissolved by the City Council. SECTION 9.
