HomeMy WebLinkAbout18-2130RESOLUTION NO. 18-2130 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY OF DENTON AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO ACCEPT THE 2018 STATE HOMELAND SECURITY PROGRAM (SHSP) GRANT (GRANT NO. 3324402) IN THE AMOUNT OF $24,000.00 FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS, OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, THROUGH A GRANT FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY FOR THE PERIOD OF OCTOBER 1, 2018 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2019; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Denton was awarded the 2018 State Homeland Security Program Grant ("Grant"); and WHEREAS, the purpose of the State Homeland Security Program Grant (Grant No. 3324402) is to prevent and protect against terrorism and other catastrophic events or risk of threats, by building and sustaining law enforcement capabilities through implementation of law enforcement prevention activities, including multidiscipline planning and training; and WHEREAS, this Grant will enable the City of Denton Police Department to enhance its S WAT equipment utilized for hazardous operations or emergencies; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds it in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Denton ("City") to accept the State Homeland Security Program Grant and that the Grant be operated for the period of October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019; NOW THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The findings and recitation contained in the preamble of this Resolution are incorporated herein by reference. SECTION 2. The City Council approves and authorizes the City Manager, or his designee, to accept the State Homeland Security Program Grant and to take any additional action in connection with the Grant that the City Manager, or his designee, deems most appropriate and in the best interest of the City. SECTION 3. If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause, phase, or word in this Resolution, or the application thereof to any person or under any circumstances is held invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this Resolution, and the City County of the City of Denton, hereby declares it would have enacted such remaining portion despite any such invalidity. SECTION 4.
