HomeMy WebLinkAbout19-655REsoLUT1oN No, 19-655 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON SUPPORTING BOTH SENATE BILL 1156 AND HOUSE BILL 2920 WHICH WERE RECENTLY INTRODUCED 1N THE 86th TEXAS LEGISLATURE, THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE TEXAS RAILROAD COMMISSION TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARINGS ON CERTAIN GAS WELL PERMIT APPLICATIONS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, both Senate Bill 1156 and House Bi112920, which are companion bills, would require the Texas Railroad Commission to require that an applicant for a permit to drill a new oil or gas well indicate on the application whether the proposed well site is located within 1,500 feet of the property line of a child-care facility, private school, or primary or secondary public school; and WHEREAS, both aforementioned bills would require that the Texas Railroad Commission cannot grant an application for a permit to drill a new oil or gas well if the proposed well site is located within 1,500 feet of the property line of a child-care facility, private school, or primary or secondary public school unless the Texas Railroad Commission holds a public hearing on the proposed gas well site application and the Texas Railroad Commission considers the comments received when determining whether to grant the application; and WHEREAS, the Denton City Council discussed SB 1156 and HB 2920 during a work session presentation on March 19, 2019 and directed City staff to bring back a resolution of support for City Council consideration; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES:. SECTION 1. The City Council hereby adopts and incorporates the above-referenced findings in this resolution. SECTION 2 p The City of Denton supports both SB 1156, as proposed in the Texas State Senate, �and HB 2920, as proposed in the Texas State House of Representatives, which would require the Texas Railroad Commission to hold public hearings on certain gas well permit applications.
