WHEREAS, the City has developed the necessary application materials and desires to
make an application to the Texas Commission on the Arts to achieve the official state cultural
district designation for the Original Denton District; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION l.m The City Council supports the Original Denton District's effort to achieve
an official state cultural district designation. The City endorses the submission of an application
and agrees to participate in the development and financial support of the Original Denton District.
SECTION 2. The City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to sign and submit an
application to the Texas Commission on the Arts seeking a Texas Cultural District Designation for
the Original Denton District.
SECTION 3. The City Council endorses the goal of economic development of the Original
Denton District within the context of preservation and rehabilitation of our historic buildings.
SECTION 4. The City Council endorses the goal of tourism development of the Original
Denton District within the context of contributing to the overall visitor development goals of the
City.
SECTION 5. The City Council has charged the Public Art Committee as the oversight
board for cultural districts and any matters pertaining to the Original Denton District may be
presented to the Public Art Committee for consideration and recommendation to the City Council.
SECTION 6. The City Council directs staff to actively support, develop, and maintain the
Original Denton District.

and help maintain activities in the Original Denton District.
