' • • .r . 1 - • f- • .��• -� • �- � '' , 1 1 , r WHEREAS, the Denton Plan 2030 established gaals, palicies, and actians ta manage growth, promote reinvestment, and imprave quality af life in the City for the next two decades; and WHEREAS, the Denton Plan 2030 established goals, policies, and actions intended to maintain and improve upon the City's community character, specifically calling for an update ta the Historic Preservatian Plan; and WHEREAS, on February l, 2018, the Texas Historical Commission awarded the City of Denton a$20,000 grant for the development of a new Preservatian Plan; and WHEREAS, The Lakota Group was selected as the City's consultant and since September af 201$, has worked closely with staff ta canducting a public invalvement process, including community workshaps, stakeholder interviews, and online surveys to ensure comprehensive input for a new Preservatian Plan; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Secretary of Inter►or pravides Standards for Histar►c Preservat►on Planning which serve as the faundatian for the Denton Historic Preservation Plan; and WHEREAS, the propased Dentan Historic Preservation Plan builds upon the foundation established by both the arig�nal Historic Preservatian Plan of 1985 and by the Dentan Plan 2030, as well as by the foresight and guidance of concerned citizens; and WHEREAS, on 5eptember l6, 2019, the Histaric Landmark Commission held a public meeting and recommended adoption af the Dentan Historic Preservation Plan, 111CIUdlllg ItS V1S1011, value statements, goals, policies, recam'r►endations, and implementation matrix; and WHEREAS, an September 18, 2019, the Planning and Zaning Commission also hefd a public meeting and recommended adoptian of the Denton H►staric Preservation Plan, including its vision, value statements, goals, palicies, recommendations, and implementatian matrix; and WHEREAS, the City Council �nds that the vision, value statements, goals, policies, recommendations, and implementation matrix praposed within the Dentan Preservation Plan are cans►stent with the Denion Plan 2030 and are in the best interests af the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of the City of Denton, Texas; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CI"I'Y OF DENTON, TEXAS HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The findings and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are incorporated herein by reference as true. SECTION 2. The Denton City Council adopts the vision, value statements, goals, policies, recommendations, and implementation matrix proposed in the Denton Historic Preservation Plan, dated August 28, 2019, as presented in the attached Exhibit "A" and encourages continued progress toward the Plan. ,SECTION 3. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
