HomeMy WebLinkAbout19-2873 RESOLUTION NO. 19-2873 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR FEDERAL TAX CREDITS FOR GREEN ENERGY PROGRAMS AS CONTAINED WITHIN THE PROPOSED GROWING RENEWABLE ENERGY AND EFFICIENCY NOW (GREEN) ACT OF 2019; DIRECTING A LETTER TO THAT EFFECT BE DELIVERED TO THE U.S. SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE AND OTHER PARTIES AS APPROPRIATE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the 116th United States Congress commenced in January 2019; and WHEREAS, the United States Congress has the authority for the establishment of federal tax law, including the establishment of federal tax credits and the administration of federal tax credit programs; and WHEREAS, a discussion draft of the Growing Renewable Energy and Efficiency Now (GREEN) Act of 2019 has been released by Representative Thompson of California, and contains numerous green energy and alternative energy tax credits and tax credit extensions; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton acknowledges that federal green energy and alternative energy tax credits would incentivize the adoption of green energy and alternative energy practices, incentivize participation in City of Denton sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives, bolster community resilience, and support environmental stewardship; NOW, THERFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The City Council adopts and incorporates the above referenced findings in this resolution. SECTION 3. The City Council of the City of Denton expresses its support for green energy and alternative energy federal tax credits as contained within the GREEN Act of 2019. SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Denton and directs a letter to be delivered to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee of the 116th United States Congress, and any other parties as deemed appropriate. This letter will be substantially similar to the attached Exhibit"2"in both form and substance. SECTION 3. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
