HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-914S:\Legal\Our Documents\Resolutions\20\SRTS 2020 Resolution Sam Houston - fmal.docx RESOLUTION NO. 20-914 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON, A TEXAS MUNICIPAL HOME -RULE CORPORATION, SUPPORTING PARTICIPATION IN THE 2020 TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVE CALL FOR PROJECTS BY SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVES SET-ASIDE PROGRAM, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SECURING FUNDING RELATED TO THE SAFE ROUTE TO SAM HOUSTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT; CONFIRMING ANTICIPATED FUNDING SHOULD THE APPLICATION BE ACCEPTED; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation Council ("RTC"), comprised primarily of local elected officials, is the regional transportation policy board associated with the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the regional forum for cooperative decisions on transportation; and WHEREAS, the RTC will award funding on August 28, 2020, for active transportation projects through the Transportation Alternatives Set -Aside Program Call for Projects; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton intends to submit a transportation alternatives project application for the Safe Route to Sam Houston Elementary School Project, which would include sidewalks, crosswalks, and curb ramps, (the "Project") to the North Central Texas Council of Governments prior to the May 15, 2020 deadline; and WHEREAS, the RTC requires the submittal of a resolution confirming support and anticipated funding as part of the Transportation Alternative Set -Aside Program Call for Projects application submission; NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The recitals in the preamble of this Resolution are incorporated by reference as if set out fully herein. SECTION 2. The City of Denton supports the proposed Safe Route to Sam Houston Elementary School Project as applied for in the 2020 Transportation Alternatives Set -Aside Program Call for Projects application. SECTION 3. The City of Denton will serve as the public sponsor and lead Project contact on the Project. SECTION 4. The City of Denton commits to fund or pass-through funds from 2019 Sidewalk bonds for a minimum local cash match of twenty percent (20%), estimated to be approximately $350,000.00, of the total Project cost. SECTION 5. The City of Denton confirms that City of Denton, not the Regional Transportation Council, will be responsible for any cost overruns. The City of Denton understands and acknowledges that all awarded funding is provided on a reimbursement basis. SECTION 7. The City of Denton confirms the Project timeline is realistic and commits that if the Project is selected for funding, an agreement will be executed within one year of selection and the Project will advance to construction within three years from the date of selection. SECTION 8. This Resolution is effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
