A RESOLUTION TO FORMALLY ACCEPT MAYOR CHRIS WATT’S RESIGNATION
FROM CITY COUNCIL PLACE 7, WITH SAID RESOLUTION BEING EFFECTIVE
THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 2020.
WHEREAS, Chris Watts served the City of Denton as the Place 4 Council Member for
three terms; and
WHEREAS, Chris Watts was elected Mayor in 2014 and is currently serving his third term;
and
WHEREAS, Mayor Chris Watts has submitted a letter of resignation to be effective August
27, 2020; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION 1. The recitals set forth above are true and correct and are incorporated herein
for all purposes.
SECTION 2. The Denton City Council hereby accepts the resignation of Chris Watts
from his service as Mayor effective August 27, 2020. Per Article 16, Section 17 of the Texas
Constitution, the mayor shall continue as Mayor until his successor is elected and sworn in.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage and
approval.
