HomeMy WebLinkAbout21-1481RESOLUTION NO. 21-1481 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON CONFIRMING THE CITY MANAGER'S REAPPOINTMENT OF JAIME BLANTON TO THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION TO SERVE FOR THE TERM BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 AND ENDING AUGUST 31, 2024; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Civil Service Commissioner Lilyan Prado -Carrillo requested a leave of absence due to medical reasons for the remainder of her term that expires on August 31, 2021; and WHEREAS, the requested leave of absence was approved by the City of Denton City Council on March 16, 2021; and WHEREAS, Chapter 143.006(b) of the Texas Local Government Code states, "The commission consists of three members appointed by the municipality's chief executive and confirmed by the governing body of the municipality."; and WHEREAS, Chapter 143.006(c), provides that a person appointed to the Commission must: (1) be of good moral character; (2) be a United States citizen; (3) be a resident of the municipality who has resided in the municipality for more than three years; (4) be over 25 years of age; and (5) not have held a public office within the preceding three years; and WHEREAS, after determining that Jaime Blanton met the requirements in Chapter 143.006(c), the City Manager appointed Jaime Blanton to serve the remainder of Commissioner Lilyan Prado-Carrillo's term, ending August 31, 2021; and WHEREAS, the City Manager reappointed Jaime Blanton to serve as a Civil Service Commissioner; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton City Council deems it in the public's best interest to confirm the City Manager's reappointment of Jaime Blanton to the Civil Service Commission to serve for the term beginning September 1, 2021 and ending August 31, 2024. NOW THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The City Council hereby confirms the City Manager's appointment of Jaime Blanton to the Civil Service Commission to serve for the term beginning September 1, 2021 and ending August 31, 2024, SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
