HomeMy WebLinkAbout22-1224RESOLUTiON NO. 22-1224 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT OF THE CITYOF UVALDE REGARDING THE TRAGIC EVENTS THAT OCCURRED AT ROBB ELEMENTARY SCHOOL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, nineteen children and two adults were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, making the massacre the deadliest school shooting in Texas’ history and one of the deadliest in the history of the United States; and WHEREAS, the victims’ families, friends, and the entire community of Uvalde are mourning the incomprehensible loss of life suffered on this date and will bear the scars of this event for years and generations to come; and WHEREAS, People across the globe are joining in their support of the Uvalde community as they support one another in their grief over the loss of innocent children and teachers; and WHEREAS, the Denton community gdeves along with the people ofUvalde and expresses its sincerest condolences for the needless and shocking loss of life that occurred at Robb Elementary School; and WHEREAS, the Denton community and City Council share in their support for the City of Uvalde community as they attempt to heal in the aftermath of this heart wrenching event. NOW THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The findings and recitation contained in the preamble of this Resolution are incorporated herein by reference. SECTION 2. The City of Denton hereby expresses to the City of Uvalde and the Uvalde community its complete and unwavering support as they grieve and process the disastrous events of Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Robb Elementary School. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
