A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON ADOPTING THE 2022-2023 CITY COUNCIL
PRIORITIES AND KEY FOCUS AREAS FOR THE CITY OF DENTON; AND PROVIDINGAN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council’s annual priorities serve as the primary focus for staff efforts
each year; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Denton considers priorities for the fiscal year
during its annual retreat; and
WHEREAS, the City Council held their annual retreat on June 24 and June 25, 2022, and
discussed potential topics to be included in the City Council’s priorities for the 2022-2023 fiscal
year; and
WHEREAS, the City Council now desires to formally adopt the City of Denton’s Fiscal
Year 2022-2023 priorities, key focus areas and confirm items into the 2022-23 organizational work
plan to help ensure the City is focused on addressing the initiatives that matter most to Dentonresidents and the community; NOW THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES :
SECTION 1. The findings set forth in the preamble of this resolution are incorporated by
reference into the body of this resolution as if fully set forth herein.
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby adopts the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Key Focus Areas:

Pursue Organizational Excellence & Collaborative and Respectful Leadership
Enhance Infrastructure and Mobility
Foster Economic Opportunity and Affordability
Strengthen Community & Quality of Life
Support Healthy and Safe Communities
Promote Sustainability & the Environment
SECTION 3. The City Council hereby adopts the FY 2022-2023 Council Priorities:

New City Hall which includes the potential for retail lease space or partnership
opportunrtres
City staffing, benefits, and sustainability
Form a Municipal Housing Corporation to focus on workforce/affordable housing
Execute the Housing Affordability program
Increase tourism
Develop and implement small area plans
Partner with Vulcan Materials to relocate the concrete plant
SECTION 4. The City Council also directs staff to provide status updates on the continuing
FY 21-22 key projects, priorities, and initiatives:

Develop the City Hall West plan
Implement 3 11 System
Continue Implementing the Economic Development Strategic Plan
Review and develop Denton Development Code (DDC Amendments)
Develop the 909 N. Loop 288 Building as a 24/7 Center
Continue to Strengthen Homelessness Initiatives and the Housing Crisis Response System
Complete Public Safety Facilities from Bond Program
Pursue Fire Department Accreditation
Continue Development of the Police Department Mental Health Division
Continue Updating Police Department Policies and Training
Progress the 2020 Simply Sustainable Framework and Advisory Committee
Expand Bike/Pedestrian Network
Evaluate a Strategy or Preferred Pattern of Preservation
Enhance Focus on Traffic & Speed Safety
SECTION 5. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval.
