HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-999RESOLUTION NO. 23-999 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON RATIFYING THE SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION TO THE STATE OF TEXAS, OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, 2023 URBAN AREA SECURITY INITIATIVE (UASI) LAW ENFORCEMENT TERRORISM PREVENTIONACTIVITIES (LETPA) GRANT PROGRAM FUNDED THROUGH THE US DEPARTMENTOF HOMELAND SECURITY IN TUE AMOUNT OF $66,115 FOR TACTICAL COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT AND PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT; ANDPROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Denton has been notified of its eligibility for the 2023 UASI LETPA grant and applied for said grant within the timeframes required by the application process; and WHEREAS, the grant is awarded by the State of Texas, Office of the Governor, and funded by the US Department of Homeland Security for the period of October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the grant is to support state and local efforts to prevent terrorist attacks and support critical prevention and protection activities by sustaining law enforcement capabilities; and WHEREAS, the grant will provide necessary equipment to sustain the specialized regional response team operated by the City of Denton; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds it in the best interest of the public to accept the grant award, to be operated for the period of October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024; NOWTHEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES : SECTION 1. The application for the 2023 UASI LETPA grant made April 4, 2023, is hereby ratified. SECTION 2. The City Manager or designee is designated, delegated, and authorized to request and accept grant funding under the 2023 UASI LETPA grant, including the submission of an application, and act on behalf of the City of Denton in all matters related to the grant application, receipt of funds, and any subsequent grant contracts, agreements and grant projects that may result. SECTION 3. The City shall comply with the requirements of the Texas Office of the Governor, the US Department of Homeland Security, and the State of Texas. SECTION 4. The project funds and any project-funded equipment and facilities will be used solely for the purposes for which they are intended under the grant. SECTION 5. The City agrees that in the event of loss or misuse of the Office of the Governor funds, the City assures that the funds will be returned to the Office of the Governor infull SECTION 6. This resolution is effective immediately upon its passage.
