HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-2455RESOLUTION NO. 23-2455 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON RATIFYING THE SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION TO THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (TXDOT) FOR THE 2025 GENERAL TRAFFIC SAFETY GRANT PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF $135,000 TO PROVIDE BLOOD DRAW SERVICES ON DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED ARRESTS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the TXDOT opened the 2025 Traffic Safety Program Request for Proposals on November 10, 2023 for applications supporting the targets and strategies of its traffic safety program to reduce the number of motor vehicle related crashes, fatalities and serious injuries in Texas.; and WHEREAS, the organizations eligible for general traffic safety grants include state and local governments, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton is eligible to apply for the funds under the application crrterra; WHEREAS, the grant is proposed to provide $135,000 in funding to the City for blood draw services to be performed on Driving While Intoxicated arrests; and WHEREAS, the grant requires a match of 20 percent of the total project cost equaling $33,750 in City funding; and WHEREAS, the City developed the necessary application materials and desires to make an application to the TXDOT Traffic Safety Program; and WHEREAS, grant applications were due on or before January 4, 2024; and WHEREAS, the application information and materials for such grant has been submitted. NOW THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The application for the 2025 Traffic Safety Program is hereby ratified. SECTION 2. The City Manager, or designee, is designated, delegated, and authorized to request grant funding under the TXDOT 2025 Traffic Safety Program, including the submission of the application, and act on behalf of the City of Denton in all matters related to the grant application and any subsequent grant contracts and grant projects that may result. SECTION 3. Should the project be funded, then the City of Denton shall comply with the requirements of the TXDOT and the State of Texas. SECTION 4. The City of Denton shall certify that the matching share for this program is readily available upon completion of the grant agreement. SECTION 5. The project funds and any project-funded equipment and facilities will be used solely for the purposes for which they are intended under the grant. SECTION 6. This resolution is effective immediately upon its passage.
