UR~VERS~TY DI~IVE K~WAN~$ CLUB, DENTON, TEXAS RESOLUTION ON CIVIL DEFENSE WHEREAS these are perilous rims for our national survival with the existence of the possibilities of nuclear attack on this country, and WHEREAS our national and state leaders have repeatedly testified that in the event of ~uclear attack, millions of American lives could be saved by adequate Civil defense preparedness, and WHEREAS n~w, more than ever, ·strons civil de£ense is vital to the national security 8nd is of direct concern to every citizen, to every civic, reliSious, education~lo and industrial orsanizetion, and to every level of sovermuent, and WHEREAS, ~n view of recent events on the international scene, the increase in cold war ~ension, and leadership by the president of the United States end other national Executive and Con~ressional leaders, the public indifference and skepticism rasardins the value of civil defense is beins diss£pated and individua~S in civic and religious organizat£ons, educators, public officials, and the clitizenryat large are evidenctnS interest and concern in the problems and progress of nomullitary defense and national and individual survival, and WHEREAS the President of the United States has stated that "to recognize the poss£bil~ties of nuclear war in the m~ssile ass without our citizens knowin~ what to 4o and where they should go if bombs begin to fall would be a failure of responsibility", and has moved to strensthen the civil defense o£ our country, as well es the military defense, and has called upon government at every level and upon all citizens to redouble their efforts for an inv£~o~atsd civil defense program, and WHEREAS CiVil defense is the direct responsibility of City and County govermneat, as well as that of the state and Federal government, and June IA,il961, by resolution, aecaareu cnau strong c~vil defense and defense mobilization program and reaffirmed its past resolutions, urgin~ municipalities to increase their capabilities to function durin~ an emergency, and WHEREAS there is a need end necessity for increased civil defense activities in the City and County of Denton and the public is lookins to the officials of these govermueuts to fulfill their responsibilities of leadership in this Eleld, and WHEREAS[the officials and citizens o£ the City and County o£ Denton must do their p~rt to insure the survival of our Nationaand the preservation of the American way of life, includin~ as it does our individual liberty, freedom of speech, freedom of worship, and other rights and privileges our forefathers sacrificed to secure and protect and which we now enjoy.
