A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON AUTHORIZ[NG THE SUBMISSION OF AN
APPLICATION TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR BUREAU OF
RECLAMATION WATERSMART WATER AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY GRANT 2024 IN
THE AMOUNT OF $5,000,000 FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ADVANCED METERING
INFRASTURCTURE SYSTEM ; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Bureau of Reclamation issued a call for projects on November 14, 2023
for States, Tribes, and local entities to apply for funding assistance through the WaterSMART
Water and Energy Efficiency Grant; and
WHEREAS, the WaterSMART funds may be used for municipal metering projects that
install end-used water service meters for residential and commercial building units, resulting in
measurable water savings; and
WHEREAS, the WaterSMART funds require a local match, comprised of cash, costs
contributed by the applicant, or third-party in-kind contributions. The City would be responsible
for a 50% match of total projects costs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Denton is eligible to apply for the funds under the application
criteria; and
WHEREAS, the City has developed the necessary application materials and desires to
make an application to the Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency
Grant; and
WHEREAS, grant applications are due on February 22, 2024; NOW THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION 1. The application for the Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART Water and
Energy Efficiency Grant 2024 is hereby authorized.
SECTION 2. The City Manager, or designee, is designated, delegated, and authorized to
request grant funding under the Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART Water and Energy
Efficiency Grant 2024, including the submission of the WaterSMART Grant application, and act
on behalf of the City of Denton in all matters related to the grant application, receipt of funds, and
any subsequent grant contracTs and grant projects that may result.
SECTION 3. Should the project be funded, then the City of Denton shall comply with the
requirements of the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Department of the Interior.
SECTION 4. The City of Denton supports funding this project as described in the
WaterSMART Grant 2024 Application and is willing to commit to the project’s development,
implementation, construction, maintenance, management, and financing.
SECTION 5. The City of Denton is willing and able to enter into an agreement with the
Bureau of Reclamation should the project be selected for funding.
SECTION 6. The project funds and any project-funded equipment and facilities will be
used solely for the purposes for which they are intended under the grant.
SECTION 7. This resolution is effective immediately upon its passage.
