A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF AN
APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS) FISCAL YEAR
2023 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT (AFG) PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF
$111,186 FOR WILDLAND PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT; AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Denton Fire Department is eligible to apply for funding under the
DHS Fiscal Year 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program Notice of Funding Opportunity;
and
WHEREAS, the AFG Program provides financial assistance directly to eligible fire
departments for critical training and equipment used to enhance the safety of firefighters and
therefore the public with respect to fire and fire-related hazards; and
WHEREAS, the grant will provide the necessary wildland personal protective equipment
to firefighters for utilization in prescribed training exercises and during daily calls for service; and
WHEREAS, the application to the DHS Fiscal Year 2023 AFG Program is due March 8,
2024; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds it in the best interest of the public to apply for this grant
opportunity; NOW THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION 1. The recitals are hereby incorporated and made part of this resolution for all
purposes.
SECTION 2. The application for the DHS Fiscal Year 2023 AFG Program due March 8,
2024, is hereby authorized.
SECTION 3. The City Manager or designee is designated, delegated, and authorized to
request and accept grant funding under the DHS Fiscal Year 2023 AFG Program, including the
submission of DHS’s application information and materials, and act on behalf of the City of
Denton in all matters related to the grant application, receipt of funds, and any subsequent grant
contracts, agreements and grant projects that may result.
SECTION 4. The City shall comply with the requirements of the US Department of
Homeland Security FY 2023 AFG Notice of Funding Opportunity and the terms and conditions of
the award, should one be received.
SECTION 5. The project funds and any project-funded equipment and facilities will be
used solely for the purposes for which they are intended under the grant.
SECTION 6. This resolution is effective immediately upon its passage.
