HomeMy WebLinkAbout24-824RESOLUTION NO. 24-824 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF JESSICA ROBLEDO AS INTERIM CHIEF OF POLICE OF THE CITY OF DENTON POLICE DEPARTMENT BEGINNING ON APRIL 16, 2024; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, pursuant to Local Government Code §143.013(a)( 1 ), the City Manager has the authority to appoint the Department Head (Chief of Police) of the Denton Police Department, subject to confirmation by the City Council; and WHEREAS, on February 13, 2024, Chief of Police Doug Shoemaker submitted his resignation to the City Manager effective 5:00 pm on March 2, 2024; and WHEREAS, the City Manager intends to conduct a nation-wide recruitment for a successor Chief of Police; and WHEREAS, the City Manager appointed Deputy Chief of Police Bryan Cose to the position of acting Chief of Police to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the Chief of Police, effective February 13, 2024, and continuing until such time the City Manager, without further Council action required, determined that status should end; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has determined that the appointment Deputy Chief Bryan Cose as acting Chief of Police should end and the appointment of an individual to the position of Interim Chief of Police is needed to ensure the continuity of operations and public safety until a successor Chief of Police is appointed by the City Manager and confirmed by the City Council; and WHEREAS, Jessica Robledo served 30 years with the Austin Police Department, retiring with the rank of Assistant Chiee and WHEREAS, Jessica Robledo served for 4 years as the Chief of Police of the City of Pflugerville, Texas; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Denton has determined that the appointment of Jesssica Robledo as Interim Chief of Police should be confirmed; NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The recitals contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby incorporated into the body of this resolution as if set out fully herein. SECTION 2. The City Council confirms the appointment of Jessica Robledo as Interim Chief of Police beginning on April 16, 2024, and continuing for such time as the City Manager deems appropriate, and the Interim Chief of Police is authorized to and shall carry out all duties and responsibilities of the Chief of Police during that period.\, SECTION 3. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
