HomeMy WebLinkAboutR2005-043S:\OUf Documents\Rcsolutions\05\Homelcss Coal Rep Res.doc RESOLUTION NO. 12~{}5-tJt/3 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS APPOINTING THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATOR AS THE CITY'S REPRESENTATIVE TO THE DENTON COUNTY HOMELESS COALTION AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY'S PARTICIPATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A 10- YEAR PLAN TO END CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, there has been an effort by the Federal government to end chronic homelessness within the next 10 years; and WHEREAS, persons experiencing chronic or long-term homelessness are generally homeless for over one year and may be living with a disability, addiction or mental illness; and WHEREAS, research indicates that persons experiencing chronic homelessness use a disproportionate share of the resources targeted for homeless assistance; and WHEREAS, the Denton County Homeless Coalition is working to develop a plan to end chronic homelessness in Denton County within 10 years through collaborative efforts by local service organizations and governmental entities; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton has participated and will continue to participate in efforts to assist the homeless and potentially homeless in our community; NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION I: The City Council authorizes and directs the Community Development Administrator or her designee, to represent and act on behalf of the City of Denton in working with the Denton County Homeless Coalition in the development of a I O-year plan to end chronic homelessness in Denton County. SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Denton, Texas, authorizes the Community Development Administrator or her designee to work to further the goals of the Denton County Homeless Coalition. SECTION 3. The City Secretary is hereby authorized to furnish true, complete and correct copies of this resolution to all interested parties. SECTION 4.
