HomeMy WebLinkAbout24-1902RESOLUTION NO. 24-1902 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF JESSICA ROBLEDO AS CHIEF OF POLICE OF THE CITY OF DENTON; AND DECLAR[NG AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, pursuant to Local Government Code §143.013, the City Manager has the authority to appoint the Department H ead (Chief of Police) of the Denton Police Department, subject to confirmation by the City Council; and WHEREAS, on February 13, 2024, Chief of Police Doug Shoemaker submitted his resignation to the City Manager effective 5:00 pm on March 2, 2024; and WHEREAS, the City Manager appointed, and the City Council confirmed Jessica Robledo as the Interim Chief of Police on April 16, 2024 (Resolution 24-824); and WHEREAS, Jessica Robledo has been performing the duties of Interim Chief of Police since April 16, 2024; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has determined that Jessica Robledo meets all the qualifications and requirements of the position of Chief of Police, and has appointed her to serve as Chief of Police; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Denton has determined that the appointment should be confirmed; NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The recitals contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby incorporated into the body of this resolution as if set out fully herein. SECTION 2. The appointment of Jessica Robledo as Chief of Police of the City of Denton is hereby confirmed. SECTION 3. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval. SECTION 4. Jessica Robledo is to be sworn in as the Chief of Police on October 8, 2024. In the interim period between the effective date of this resolution and her swearing in, she shall remain the Interim Chief of Police with all the powers, duties, and responsibilities granted to her by law, including but not limited to the City Charter, City Code of Ordinances, State Law, and the 2022-2026 Meet and Confer Agreement between the City of Denton and the Denton Police Officers Association.
