HomeMy WebLinkAbout24-2638Docusign Envelope ID: B67B5DBA-020D-49EB-BB02-6C94CD896AED RESOLUTION NO. 24-2638 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON REPLACING DIRECTIVE No. 506.01 “ACCEPTABLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY” WITH POLICY No. 506.01 “ACCEPTABLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES STANDARD” TO ENSURE THE PROPOER USE AND SECURITY OF THE ORGANIZATION’S INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY USED TO PROVIDE OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO OUR COMMUNITY; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Administrative Directive to replace “Acceptable Use of Technology” with “Acceptable Use of Technology Resources Standard” (Directive) was approved by the Policy Review Committee November 18, 2024; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton “Acceptable Use of Technology Resources Standard” Policy will be in compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Specialist Publication (SP): • NIST SP 800-53 – Awareness and Training (AT) • NISTSP800-12 • • • • • NIST SP 800-16 NIST SP 800-50 NIST SP 800-100 Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (CFR): 5 CFR 930.301 Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) v5.9.5 Texas CJIS Requirements Companion Document version 5.9.4; and WHEREAS, staff desires to elevate the Directive to a policy of the City; and WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends adoption of an Acceptable Use of Technology Resources Standard policy and the City Council desires to adopt such policy; NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES: SECTION 1. The Policy Statement in “Acceptable Use of Technology Resources Standard”, which is incorporated in this section, is hereby adopted as an official policy of the City of Denton: Docusign Envelope ID: B67B5DBA-020D'+9EB-BB02-6C94CD896AED POLICY PURPOSE STATEMENT As the City strives to provide quality service and initiate strategic focus, this policy works to ensure the proper use and security of the organization’s information and technology used to provide outstanding service to our community. By participating, supporting, and collaborating on eRective security and appropriate usage practices the City can ensure all members of the organization (“users”) mitigate the exposure of our work to the risks of virus attacks, network system compromises, and legal liabilities. POLICY This policy applies to users of any City of Denton system’s information or physical infrastructure regardless of its form or format, created or used to support the organization. It is the user’s responsibility to read and understand this policy and to conduct their activities in accordance with its terms. In addition, users must read and understand the organization’s ErR: wtion Security Policy and its associated standards. SECTION 2. This resolution only adopts and approves the “Policy Statement” portion of the Acceptable Use of Technology Resources Standard policy as set forth above. The remaining portion of the Acceptable Use of Technology Resources Standard policy is an administrative procedure describing the means and methods by which City management implements the Policy Statement. The City Manager is authorized to amend and issue such administrative procedures and directives as deemed necessary to implement the Policy related to personnel and internal operational matters. SECTION 3. The attached policy shall be filed in the official records with the City Secretary. SECTION 4. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
