HomeMy WebLinkAbout25-522ORDINANCE NO. 25-522 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF DENTON AND THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS ON BEHALF OF ITS DEPARTMENT OF LIFELONG LEARNING AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TO OFFER A DISCOUNTED MEMBERSHIP OPTION OF THE OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE AT UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS PROGRAM TO DENTON PARKS AND RECREATION REC PASS HOLDERS 50 YEARS AND OLDER, AND TO UTILIZE SPACE PROVIDED BY CITY OF DENTON RECREATION CENTERS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE. TO PERFORM ALL OBLIGATIONS OF THE CITY UNDER THE AGREEMENT AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, University of North Texas administers the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of North Texas (“OLLI and UNT”) and the University of North Texas Retiree Association (“UNTRA”); and WHEREAS, OLLI at UNT is a lifelong learning program that offers non-credit courses and events to provide an educational program that fosters intellectual stimulation and social engagement through an extensive array of learning opportunities curated by and for adults age 50 and better; and WHEREAS, OLLI at UNT is part of a national network of Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes that receive support from The Bernard Osher Foundation; and WHEREAS, UNTRA exists to keep retirees connected to the university and to each other; and receives its financial support largely from the university and due-based membership; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton (“City”) proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) regarding OLLI at UNT’s provision of offering a discounted membership option for Denton Parks and Recreation (“PARD”) Rec Pass holders age 50 and older that would be effective unless terminated or modified in writing and by mutual consent of authorized officials from both the City and UNT; and WHEREAS, the MOU will be effective from the time of execution until September 30, 2028; and WHEREAS, UNT staff has reviewed the MOU required by the City and is of the opinion that it should be approved; and WHEREAS, the City of Denton City Council finds it is in the public interest to approve the MOU; NOWTHEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION 1. The findings and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are incorporated herein by reference as true and as if fully set forth in the body of this ordinance. SECTION 2. The City Manager, or designee, is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the City the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of North Texas and City of Denton for the provision of discounted Exhibit “A“ and incorporated herein, OLLI memberships a copy of which is attached as SECTION 3. The City Manager, or designee, is further authorized to carry out all duties and obligations to be performed by the City under the MOU, SECTION 4.
