A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DENTON FORMALLY ACCEPTING THE
RESIGNATION OF JORDAN VILLARREAL FROM CITY COUNCIL PLACE 1; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Jordan Villarreal served the City of Denton as the Place 1 Council Member
beginning May 12, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Jordan Villarreal submitted a letter of resignation on July 30, 2026; NOW
THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble of this Resolution are
incorporated into the body of Resolution.
SECTION 2. The City Council accepts the resignation of Jordan Villarreal from his service as
Council Member, District i effective August 5, 2026. Per Article 16, Section 17 of the Texas
Constitution, he shall continue as Council Member for District 1 until his successor is elected and
sworn in.
SECTION 3. This resolution is effective immediately upon its passage.
The motion to approve this resolution was made by Stevens and seconded by Ferrie, the resolution
was passed and approved by the following vote [6 - 01:

Dear Mayor, City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary. and Members of the Denton City Council
I am writing to fornnity announce my intention to resign from my position as City Councilman fa
the City of Denton. I plyn to step down September 111, 2026, and providing due notice to allow for the
city to told a special election concidmg with the regurn November election
This decision has not come lightly Serving the residents of Denton has been a profound honor, and I
am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and the opportunrty to contribute to the growth and welt -
being of our community I remain proud of the work we have accomplished together, including feeding
the effort to prwde retired firefighters with a cost-ol•living adjustment —a light that I sincerely tape
my colleagues will continue in the months ahead, I have also fought to ensure that our neighborhoods
felt included and heard, and worked to push back against genlrdw-ahon and overdevelopment in order
to preserve the character and accessibility of our Community.
At this time. I must step away from my duties to focus on my personal health After careful
consrderahon. I believe it is in the best interest of both my well -being imd the continued effective
representation of my considuents that I transition out of this role rn an orderly manner.

Denton for then support. cotlaboratan, and declKatron to our community. It has been a privilege to
serve alongside you It has addlhonally been an honor to serve as the City of Denton's youngest ever
and fast gay City Councilman. and the first Lat-no in nearly two decades.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve, and I ask for privacy for me and my family at this present time
