AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, RENAMING THE EXISTING EAST -
WEST SECTION OF HILLTOP ROAD BETWEEN FM 1830 (COUNTRY CLUB ROAD) AND
THE EXISTING NORTH —SOUTH SECTION OF HILLTOP ROAD TO HICKORY CREEK
ROAD, IN THE CITY OF DENTON, DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Tracy L. Beck of City of Denton Capital Projects, on behalf of the City of
Denton, applied for a street name change on May 22, 2026, renaming the existing east -west section
of Hilltop Road between FM 1830 (Country Club Road) and the existing north —south section of
Hilltop Road to Hickory Creek Road, as shown in Exhibit A, attached hereto and incorporated
herein by reference (hereinafter, the "Subject Area'); and
WHEREAS, the parcels affected by the street name change are shown in Exhibit B, attached
hereto and incorporated herein by reference; and
WHEREAS, the proposed street renaming is necessary to establish a continuous alignment of
Hickory Creek Road between FM 1830 and the existing segment of Hickory Creek Road to the
east, which will be connected upon completion of the Hickory Creek Road Phase 3 roadway and
bridge project; and
WHEREAS, on September 22, 2026, the City Council conducted apublic meeting and finds
that the request meets and complies with all substantive and procedural standards set forth in
Section 25-15 of the Denton Code of Ordinances; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Denton, in considering the request for a street
name change from Hilltop Road to Hickory Creek Road in the Subject Area, has determined that
the requested name change is in the best interest of the health, safety, and general welfare of the
City of Denton, and accordingly, the City Council of the City of Denton is of the opinion and finds
that said name change is in the public interest and should be granted as set forth herein; NOW
THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The findings and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are
incorporated herein by reference as true.
SECTION 2. The street name of Hilltop Road in the Subject Area is hereby changed to
Hickory Creek Road.
SECTION 3. The City's official Mobility Plan map is amended to show the change in the
street name.
SECTION 4. The provisions of this ordinance are severable, and the invalidity of any phrase
or part of this ordinance shall not affect the validity or effectiveness of the remainder of this
ordinance. If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, phrase or word in this ordinance, or
application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid by any court of competent
jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portion of this ordinance,
and City Council of the City of Denton, Texas hereby declares it would have enacted such remaining portions
despite any such invalidity.
SECTION 5. In compliance with Section 2.09(c) of the Denton Charter, this ordinance shall become
effective fourteen (14) days from the date of its passage, and the City Secretary is hereby directed to cause the
caption of this ordinance to be published twice in the Denton Record- Chronicle, a daily newspaper published
in the City of Denton, Texas, within ten (10) days of the date of its passage.
