HomeMy WebLinkAboutFebruary 2, 2009 Agenda AGENDA CITY OF DENTON CITY COUNCIL February 2, 2009 After determining that a quorum is present, the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas will convene in a Special Called Work Session on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. in the Municipal Court at City Hall East, 601 E. Hickory, Denton, Texas at which the following items will be considered: NOTE: A Work Session is used to explore matters of interest to one or more City Council Members or the City Manager for the purpose of giving staff direction into whether or not such matters should be placed on a future regular or special meeting of the Council for citizen input, City Council deliberation and formal City action. At a Work Session, the City Council generally receives informal and preliminary reports and information from City staff, officials, members of City committees, and the individual or organization proposing council action, if invited by City Council or City Manager to participate in the session. Participation by individuals and members of organizations invited to speak ceases when the Mayor announces the session is being closed to public input. Although Work Sessions are public meetings, and citizens have a legal right to attend, they are not public hearings, so citizens are not allowed to participate in the session unless invited to do so by the Mayor. Any citizen may supply to the City Council, prior to the beginning of the session, a written report regarding the citizen’s opinion on the matter being explored. Should the Council direct the matter be placed on a regular meeting agenda, the staff will generally prepare a final report defining the proposed action, which will be made available to all citizens prior to the regular meeting at which citizen input is sought. The purpose of this procedure is to allow citizens attending the regular meeting the opportunity to hear the views of their fellow citizens without having to attend two meetings. 1.Hold a discussion with Municipal Court/Municipal Judge’s Office regarding, but not limited to department history, functions, programs, and major accomplishments. Ramsay, Denton Municipal Judge SUBJECT: ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE DENTON MUNICIPAL COURT January 1, 2008 through December 31St, 2009 DATE: January 291h, 2009 DENTON MUNICIPAL COURT ANNUAL REPORT FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2008 Attached, please find the periodic report for the City of Denton Municipal Court of Record for the calendar year 2008 (January through December, 2008.) The information contained in the attached reports reflects various performance measures and statistics related to the Denton Municipal Court. This information is the same information and statistical data as officially reported to the Office of Court Administration (OCA), a Texas state agency charged with over-site of all levels of courts in the state of Texas. Please find a cumulative (or composite) report of Court Activity for the City of Denton Municipal Court summarizing court activity for the same twelve-month period of time. Additionally, please find twelve (12) separate Office of Court Administration (OCA) Reports, one for each of the nine months during this same period related only to the City of Denton Municipal Court. I have also provided you with the same statistical report for calendar year 2007 for comparative purposes. I have attached a broader compilation of state reported information regarding the relative activities of all municipal courts in the state of Texas, entitled "Municipal Court Summary." This information will provide the Council with comparative information for other municipal courts across the state. These reports should convey the activity of our court and provide you with at least a numerical evaluation of the total cases filed and disposed, as well as the number and nature of the wide variety of cases filed. I have also provided you with the 2008 Annual Warrant Report. This report reflects the number of warrants issued and executed and the fines and fees collected by the Denton Police Department Warrant Department. Municipal Court Annual Report -2008 Page 1 of 2
