ORDINANCE NO 'VV&M AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO 198-293 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF POLICE OFFICER, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE, PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, on September 15, 1998, the City Council passed Ordinance No 98- 293 to implement the recommendation of the Firefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director of Civil Service, Denton Police Department, and Denton Fire Department, adopting and approving a schedule of Authorized Positions which relates to compensation and classification of police officers and fire fighters, and WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 98-293, the Fire Department has determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of Fire Department positions to eliminate one (1) Deputy Fire Chief position, and add two (2) Battalion Chief positions, and add two Captain positions, and add five (5) Driver positions, and twelve (12) fire fighter positions, NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS i SECTION 1 That Ordinance No 98-293 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule prescribing the number of positions for each classification of police officer and fire fighter in the City of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, is hereby approved SECTION 2 That Ordinance 98-124 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of the City of Denton in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of any such conflict SECTION 3 That if any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions or applications, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are severable SECTION 4 That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval PASSED AND APPROVED this the day of2000 J K MILLER, MAYOR ATTEST JENNIFER WALTERS, CITY SECRETARY BY APPROVED AS TO LEGAL FORM HERBERT L PROUTY, CITY ATTORNEY BY (� / EXHIBIT A ORDINANCE NO RW e) - 0 q CITY OF DENTON SCHEDULE OF AUTHORIZED POSITIONS POLICE DEPARTMENT The Police Department is authorized 131 positions as follows Chief of Police 1 Captain 2 Lieutenant 8 Sergeant 11 Police Officer (and Recruits) 109 FIRE DEPARTMENT The Fire Department is authorized 125 positions as follows Fire Chief 1 Battalion Chief 6 Captain 22 Driver 36 Fire Fighter (and Recruits) 60 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO 2000-049 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF POLICE OFFICER, RENAMING CERTAIN POSITIONS IN THE CLASSIFICATION OF "BATTALION CHIEF" FOR FIREFIGHTERS AND CREATING NEW CLASSIFICATIONS BY DELEATION AND RECLASSIFICATION, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF OCTOBER 1, 2000 WHEREAS, on February 8, 2000, the City Council passed Ordinance No 2000-049 to implement the recommendation of the Firefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director of Civil Service, Denton Police Department and Denton Fire Department, adopting and approving a schedule of Authorized Positions which relates to compensation and classification of police officers and fire fighters, and WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2000-049, the Fire Department has determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of Fire Department positions That one position of Battalion Chief is deleted and creates the Fire Chief Appointed Position of Fire Division Chief, that three Battalion Chief positrons will be renamed as Battalion Chief -Operations (three positrons), reclassify one Battalion Chief position to the classification of Battalion Chief -Emergency Medical Services Program Manager (one position), reclassify one Battalion Chief positron to the classification of Battalion Chief - Information Services Manager (one position), reclassify a captain position to the classification of Fire Captain/Logistics-Maintenance Officer (one position), and adds six Fire Fighter positions, WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2000-049, the Police Department has determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of Police Department positions adds four (4) Police Officer (and Recruit) positions, NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS SECTION 1 That Ordinance 2000-049 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule prescribing the number of positions for each classification of police officer and fire fighter in the City of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, is hereby approved SECTION 2 That Ordinance 2000-049 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of the City of Denton, Texas, in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict S \Our Documents\Ordtnances\00\Crvil Service Detertnmation of Positions fire and police doc SECTION 3 That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval PASSED AND APPROVED this th day ofA"ft& , 2000 ea & 0.` AC';
