AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO
2000-049 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF
POLICE OFFICER, RENAMING CERTAIN POSITIONS IN THE CLASSIFICATION OF
"BATTALION CHIEF" FOR FIREFIGHTERS AND CREATING NEW CLASSIFICATIONS
BY DELEATION AND RECLASSIFICATION, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF
POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A SAVINGS
CLAUSE, PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING THE EFFECTIVE
DATE OF OCTOBER 1, 2000
WHEREAS, on February 8, 2000, the City Council passed Ordinance No 2000-049 to
implement the recommendation of the Firefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service
Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director
of Civil Service, Denton Police Department and Denton Fire Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authorized Positions which relates to compensation and classification of
police officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2000-049, the Fire Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Fire Department positions That one position of Battalion Chief is deleted and creates the Fire
Chief Appointed Position of Fire Division Chief, that three Battalion Chief positions will be
renamed as Battalion Chief -Operations (three positions), reclassify one Battalion Chief position
to the classification of Battalion Chief -Emergency Medical Services Program Manager (one
position), reclassify one Battalion Chief position to the classification of Battalion Chief -
Information Services Manager (one positron), reclassify a captain position to the classification of
Fire Captam/Logistics-Maintenance Officer (one positron), and adds six Fire Fighter positions,
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2000-049, the Police Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Police Department positions adds four (4) Police Officer (and Recruit) positions, NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION 1 That Ordinance 2000-049 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number of positions for each classification of police officer and fire fighter in the
City of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, is hereby
approved
SECTION 2 That Ordinance 2000-049 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of the
City of Denton, Texas, in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO
2000-428 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF
POLICE OFFICER, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH
CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE, PROVIDING

WHEREAS, on November 28, 2000, the City Council passed Ordinance No 2000-428 to
implement the recommendation of the Firefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service
Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director
of Civil Service, Denton Police Department and Denton Fire Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authorized Positions which relates to compensation and classification of
police officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2000-428, the Police Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Police Department positions adds three sergeant positions and deletes three police officer (and
Recruits) positions, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION 1 That Ordinance 2000-428 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number of positions for each classification of police officer and fire fighter in the
City of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, is hereby
approved
SECTION 2 That Ordinance 2000-428 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of the
City of Denton, Texas, in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict

WHEREAS, on July 17, 2001, the City Council passed Ordinance No 2001-232 to
implement the recommendation of the Firefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service
Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director
of Civil Service, Denton Police Department and Denton Fire Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authorized Positions which relates to compensation and classification of
police officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 2001-232, the Police Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Police Department positions adds one captain position, removes one lieutenant position, adds
one sergeant position, and adds one police officer (and Recruits) positions, NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION 1 That Ordinance 2001-232 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number of positions for each classification of police officer and fire fighter in the
City of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, is hereby
approved
SECTION 2 That Ordinance 2001-232 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of the
City of Denton, Texas, in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict
SECTION 3 That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and approval
