Minutes May 09, 2000 CITY OF DENTON CITY COUNCIL MINUTES May 9, 2000 After determining that a quorum was present, the City of Denton City Council convened in a Regular Meeting on Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. PRESENT: Mayor Miller; Mayor Pro Tem Beasley; Council Members Burroughs, Cochran, Durrance, Kristoferson and Young. ABSENT: None 1. Pledge of Allegiance The Council and members of the audience recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the U. S. and Texas flags. 2. Proclamation for UNT Cheerleaders. Mayor Miller presented a proclamation for the UNT Cheerleaders. 3. The Council considered adoption of an ordinance canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the regular municipal election held in the City of Denton Texas, on May 6, 2000; and providing an effective date. The following ordinance was considered: NO. 2000-165 AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF DENTON TEXAS, ON MAY 6, 2000; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Durrance motioned, Young seconded to adopt the ordinance. On roll vote, Beasley “aye”, Burroughs “aye”, Cochran “aye”, Durrance “aye”, Kristoferson “aye”, Young “aye”, and Mayor Miller “aye”. Motion passed unanimously. 4. The Council considered approval of a Resolution of Appreciation for Mayor Jack Miller. Kristoferson motioned, Burroughs seconded to approve the Resolution of Appreciation. On roll vote, Beasley “aye”, Burroughs “aye”, Cochran “aye”, Durrance “aye”, Kristoferson “aye”, and Young “aye”. Motion carried unanimously. 5. Oath of Office administered to newly elected Council Members. Jennifer Walters, City Secretary, administered the Oath of Office to Euline Brock, Mayor; Roni Beasley, Council Member – Place 5; and Mark Burroughs, Council Member – Place 6. 6. The Council considered the election of a Mayor Pro Tem. Council Member Cochran nominated Roni Beasley. On roll vote, Beasley “aye”, Burroughs “aye”, Cochran “aye”, Durrance “aye”, Kristoferson “aye”, Young “aye”, and Mayor Brock “aye”. Motion carried unanimously. Council Member Young nominated Mark Burroughs. On roll vote, Beasley “aye”, Burroughs “aye”, Cochran “aye”, Durrance “aye”, Kristoferson “aye”, Young “aye”, and Mayor Brock “aye”. Motion carried unanimously.
