Minutes February 21, 2001CITY OF DENTON CITY COUNCIL MINUTES February 21, 2001 Joint Meeting of the City of Denton City Council and the Denton Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at 12 noon in the Council Work Session Room. PRESENT: Mayor Brock, Mayor Pro Tem Beasley, Council Members Burroughs, Durrance, and Kristoferson ABSENT: Council Members Cochran and Young 57 1. Call to Order, Announce Quorum Mayor Brock announced a quorum of the Council was presem and called the meeting to order. 2. The Council received a report and held a discussion on the School Discipline/SRO Program. Lt. Lonnie Fleming updated the council and trustees on the Student Resource Officer Program. He stated that the first year was a learning process and the second year there was a reduction in calls for service. Tony Swafford, Demon lSD, reviewed the zero tolerance provisions of the Student Code of Conduct. 3. The Council received an update and held a discussion on Denton ISD growth outside the city limits. Gene Holloway, Denton Independent School District, updated the council and trustees on Denton ISD growth outside the city limits. Council Member Durrance left the meeting. 4. The Council received an update and held a discussion on the Aquatic Center. Janet Simpson, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, updated the council and trustees on the Aquatic Center. She stated they were currently working on the inteflocal agreement. They were also working on site design development and the business plan. 5. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding the State Tax-Exempt Property Study. Superintendent Ray Braswell introduced Dr. Rutherford who reviewed the State Tax Exempt Property Study. 6. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding the Civic Leadership for Exemplary Education Group. 58 City of Denton City Council Minutes February 21, 2001 Page 2 Superintendent Ray Braswell spoke about the Civic Leadership for Exemplary Education Group. He stated that their primary effort was to help the school district become an exemplary school district. Council Member Kristoferson left the meeting. 7. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding the 6 x 6 Program - San Diego School District. Virginia Gallian, DISD Trustee, presented the "6 to 6" Extended School Day Program. 8. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding the New Employee Reception. 9.
